Her Campus (HC): Is journalism a field you want to pursue once you graduate? What is your plan after graduation?

Leanne Castro (LC): Absolutely. I don’t know how realistic the journalism dream is, but it’s the one I’m going to pursue. My post-grad plan changes literally every week, but right now I’m thinking I’ll move to Charlotte and try to do some writing and hiking there.

HC: If you could write about anything, what would it be?

LC: Ideally, Lonely Planet would send me on a big European adventure so I could write a travel guidebook for each country. Or, I’d do an “Almost Famous” kind of thing where I follow The Strokes around and write about them.

HC: It seems you’ve traveled more than the average student. What countries have you traveled to?

LC: Yeah I’ve been really lucky! There are a lot of countries I could list, but I’d say the highlights have been Brazil, Greece, Germany, and all of the UK, specifically Edinburgh and London.

HC: What has traveling around the world taught you? What could it teach others?

LC: That’s hard, but I’d say the main thing traveling teaches you is that there is more than one way to live. Like, just because you are used to a certain lifestyle doesn’t mean it’s the right one or the only one for you. It has also opened my eyes to how inherently good people are, which is cheesy but so true. So many people have gone out of their way to make me feel comfortable in their home country. I think everyone is really proud of where they come from and really eager to show that off to other people, which is so cool.

HC: Do you think studying abroad is an experience every student should take advantage of?

LC: Absolutely! It’s not the easiest thing to do financially, but it will quite literally change your life. Sell an organ if you have to. Something about being thousands of miles away from everyone you know makes you grow up really fast. But also, there are tons of places to explore around Tallahassee. Some of my favorite places to travel around Tallahassee are St. Marks, Providence Canyon, Madison Blue Springs, New Orleans and the Blue Ridge Mountains.

HC: Do you think you’ll ever live abroad?

LC: Definitely. It’s just a matter of figuring out how to do that. I would love to live in London, but the legal side of that is tricky unless I’m married to an English man or employed by an English company, so any eligible bachelors or hiring managers who are reading this should hit me up.

HC: Here’s the fun part. What is your ideal date?

LC: I don’t know, I think I’m pretty simple. I’d either want something chill like splitting a Triple Dipper at Chili’s or something all-out like going skydiving. Anything in-between seems like a waste of time.

HC: What are your plans for Spring Break?

LC: I’m going to Austin, Texas with some friends! I’ve never been, but I’m really excited because it’s supposed to have tons of Mexican food and live music and natural springs.

HC: Since you’re graduating this semester, is there anything you would like to accomplish before then? Is there anything you would change about your experience here at FSU?

LC: I wouldn’t change a thing. I have a senior year bucket list actually, but most of the items left are things I should’ve done freshman year and am now way too old for, like going to the Strip or a frat party. So at this point my main goal is to become such a regular at Bulls that I don’t even get carded at the door because the staff recognizes me.
