By Brenna Beightol
April 30, 2013 - 6:07pm

As we all know, finals are coming up with a vengeance. And for those already studying, there’s no telling just how prepared you’re going to be, but one of the hardest things to do while studying is stay focused on your materials. One minute you’re in a “quiet” corner in Strozier with your reading materials and notebooks displayed like medals of honor on the table, the next you have your head in your hand scrolling down the newsfeed of Facebook.   “How did I end up here?” is a common question many of us ask ourselves during times of duress. NFL Draft Recap

By Jenissa Azard
April 30, 2013 - 5:47pm

Florida State University’s senior quarterback, EJ Manuel, won big at the 2013 NFL Draft. As a true ‘Noles fan, it was shocking and yet amazing to hear the Buffalo Bills announce EJ Manuel as the #16 draft pick - the first (and only) quarterback to get drafted in the first round. Some can blame the mediocre talent of quarterbacks this year, and some can say that it was complete garbage and Geno Smith should have been drafted first.  However I see it as a blessing for Manuel and a testimony to his strength and character. National Alliance on Mental Illness on FSU's Campus

April 30, 2013 - 9:05am

It’s common to hear people around you saying they’ve had the flu or broken an arm, but, as a society, we don’t discuss being depressed or bipolar or anxious.  The topic of mental illness tends to make people uncomfortable.    I would say that part of the reason for this discomfort is the lack of information and knowledge about these disorders. Foosball: Rider Sandals Tournament

By Mikaela McShane
April 23, 2013 - 9:04am

For those who don’t frequent The Strip on Friday nights, you may not have heard about the foosball tournament at The Public House Bar.   The Deets Rider Sandals, the #1 sandal brand in Brazil, sponsored this event in an attempt to broaden their consumer base. The Company has come to the U.S and is “tearing it up” with young culture. In effort to really draw in the college demographic Rider Sandals headed to the sunshine state and collegiate party capitol, Florida. The tour hit all the major costal areas (and Gainesville for reasons unknown to me). Not that Tallahassee is exactly a tropical paradise, but it is definitely not at a loss for eager students who like to pretend it is.   READ MORE

Boston, We Love You

By Jenissa Azard
April 23, 2013 - 8:00am

If you are reading this then more than likely you have already heard about the events that have taken place in Boston and Texas this past week. IT is a sad time and a time full of fear. After 9/11, most of us thought that the war on terrorism would diminish. This attitude was even more fortified after President Obama declared that Osama Bin Laden was dead. Americans were thrilled and optimistic about the future, finally the ten-year war is over and our troops are coming home. However, the demon behind that devastating event has haunted us once more with the bombing that took place on Monday during the Boston Marathon. To think that to Russian brothers at 26 and 19 could be capable of such horrendous actions is almost reprehensible....

By Mary Love
April 23, 2013 - 8:00am

Featured Letter by Caroline from Tallahassee, FL Dear Madame Mary: I’m a Libra (10/06/9* born in ****, New York).  I’ve read numerous times that the Leo- Libra relationship is the most harmonious- and many of the friendships I’ve had with male Leos are full of excitement and energy, but I also remember the worst fights with Leos. (I’ve been single for 20 years - this is all friendship-based.) Is it because the Leo-Libra relationship can be so harmonious that the disagreements/fights are so much worse? Caroline, READ MORE

3 Websites That Will Help You Land Your Summer Job

By Brenna Beightol
April 23, 2013 - 8:00am

Surviving in a college town can be difficult because there are so many people looking for jobs. Whether it’s to keep up our exercise habits (hello, yoga pants), our drinking habits (thank goodness for the Moose card), or even our eating habits (pokey stix every night, please) money is hard to come by - especially toward the end of the year. Many college students aren’t sure where they should begin when it comes to finding a job. There are three colleges to account for in Tallahassee, as well as the multiple high schools. The job market isn’t lacking applicants, it’s lacking places that will hire. READ MORE
