Things to Do on a Snow Day

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Framingham chapter.

Hey there fellow college students, congrats you have been given a snow day! Unsure how to spend your free day? No problem! I will give you a few things to do while are snowed into your dorms here on campus!

1. Build a fort

Break out the blankets! And let you inner five-year-old out and spend sometime building your own blanket castle in your room. It might seem childish for a college student, but we are all just large children so it’s okay. Get a friend and build your own fort to climb in to hang out and watch movies!

2. Go sledding.

If you are brave enough to go outside and face the cold sledding can be a lot of fun, especially at Framingham State since the whole campus is made up of giant hills. And look I know what your thinking, well hey I can’t go sledding I don’t even have a sled here at school. No sled? No problem! A laundry basket can be a perfect substitute! Just dump all that dirty laundry elsewhere and take on Larned Hill! A large tub container cover can also be used if you don’t have a laundry basket.

3. Midday Slumber Party.

Okay ladies, its time to get all your friends together and enjoy some time together like our ten-year-old slumber parties. Invite your friends over, eat some snacks, make some hot chocolate, maybe paint your nails and just talk and enjoy each other’s company. College is a busy time and we all have busy schedules, so this is the day to take a break and make time to spend with your friends!

4. Netflix Marathon.

Today is a great day to catch up on some of those TV series or movies your been wanting to see with an all-day marathon! Make some popcorn, sit back, and relax as you watch whatever you like! (I highly suggest watching Stranger Things if you haven’t yet!)

5. Bake.

If you had the chance to hit the grocery store before the storm or can (carefully) make it to the store baking would be a fun activity to do on a snow day. Try looking up some new recipes or make any of your go to desserts in your dorm kitchen. Warm baked chocolate cookies or brownies would really hit the spot on a cold snowy day!

6. Find a craft.

If you are a busy-body and don’t want to sit around, finding a little project to do for the day will help you express some of your creativity as well as help you relax on your free day. I personally find a lot of projects on Pinterest that I interest me and give them a try. You could look for something to make, try drawing or even coloring!

7. Write something.

Well, here I am writing this lovely article for all of you on my snow day to give you ideas of what to do on your snow day. Writing can be a great way to help express your creativity, acts as a stress reliever and can just let you get your thoughts out and organized. Try writing a poem or story, or I even like trying to write song lyrics. Writing can help take you away from the real world for a little while.

8. Relax.

I know that everyone looks at snow days as a great opportunity to catch up or get ahead on their homework, which it is, but don’t forget that this is your day off. It is okay to spend time of work, but allow yourself at least some downtime to sit back, relax and do something you enjoy. Remember, it’s a snow day, get some hot chocolate, wrap yourself in blankets and spend it however you want!
