Rams Honor 9/11 Victims Following bin Laden's Death

By Sarah Ramirez
May 8, 2011 - 2:00pm

It was a memorable ending to Spring Weekend that no one could have predicted. On Sunday, May 1st, rumors slowly rippled and then erupted that Osama bin Laden, head of the terrorist organization Al Qaeda and mastermind of the 9/11 attacks, had been killed by American forces. By the time President Barack Obama confirmed the reports in a televised speech, word of spontaneous gatherings across the Rose Hill campus had spread via Facebook. READ MORE

NYC Bucket List: The Seven

By Claire Cumberland
May 7, 2011 - 5:39pm

A wise woman once said, “The essence of pleasure is spontaneity.”

However, the essence of a Bucket List is not spontaneity. As I keep blogging about my adventures in NYC, I keep getting further and further away from my original goal. I’m hardly crossing things off my list, but I feel like I’m having just as many adventures as I would with the list. Things to do just keep falling into my lap! Such is the nature of New York City I suppose. There’s always something exciting just waiting around the corner!

NYC Bucket List: The Bronx Zoo

By Claire Cumberland
April 23, 2011 - 9:00pm

As free time dwindles down towards the black hole that is finals week, Sarah and I have been seizing every opportunity we have to cross things off our bucket list. Since Fordham classes ended on Wednesday, Sarah and I decided to go visit one of the locations on our bucket list before heading home for the Easter break. This week, Sarah and I decided to take the lengthy journey all the way across the street to visit the Bronx Zoo.

NYC Bucket List: Orchestra Seats

By Claire Cumberland
April 9, 2011 - 12:27pm

In New York City, the student ID is a beautiful thing. Any Fordham student can attest to the magical powers that this rectangular piece of plastic seems to possess. Don’t believe me? Test it out on a around some of Fordham Road’s colorful stores or Arthur Ave eateries (or drinkeries, if you know what I mean).

I’ve been consistently surprised by the economic influence of my student ID. It seems like the more people I show it to, the more money I save. Bam- ten percent off my vanilla latte at Palumbo’s. Bam- ten percent off my boots at Dr. Jay’s for Ladies. It actually feels like highway robbery.

Sitting in class. Chewing on a pencil. Checking your phone. Is that a text? Oh my God did he just text me?! No! It’s just an alert that class starts in 5 minutes. Life Lessons from Geraldine Ferraro, Fordham Law '60

By Sarah Ramirez
March 31, 2011 - 9:08pm

Before there was Sarah Palin, there was Geraldine Ferraro. Ferraro, who spent her adolescence in the South Bronx and earned her juris doctor at Fordham, grew up to be the first female Vice Presidential candidate for a major American political party. She died on Saturday, March 26, after a long battle with multiple myeloma.  READ MORE

NYC Bucket List: The Strand Bookstore

By Claire Cumberland
March 26, 2011 - 9:52pm

I’m about to say the four most gratifying words that a bibliophile can possibly hear: 18 miles of books. Close your mouths and stop drooling, nerds! Hypocritical, I know, because it took me a few minutes to recover from fantasizing about running through an 18-mile field, looking at book after book after book after book. The most beautiful ending to this daydream is the fact that it’s actual reality. In New York City, there exists a magical land where every literature geek can make their wildest dreams come: The Strand Bookstore. READ MORE

Getting Back Into the Spring of Things

By Sarah Ramirez
March 25, 2011 - 10:24am

I have bad news, collegiettes™, and I’m not talking about the snow we had this week. It’s true: spring break is officially over. The good news is that the worst is over: you returned to Fordham from whichever tropical destination you spent your break at, and you may have even gone to class. Still, the readjustment to real-life can be kind of tough. Now that you’ve had a week to ease back into school, it’s time to settle into academia. Here’s your Her Campus survival guide to get over your spring break hangover!
