When one member of Her Campus Fordham scouted out Yoga In The Chapel, word got around fast to the rest of our team. Yoga, candles, Jesus—what more could you want? Naturally, we decided to check it out as a group.
As most wonderful things are rare, Yoga In The Chapel is only offered every other Sunday. While we wish we could attend twice a week, we’ll take twice a month if that’s the best we can get. Going into it, I was expecting candles, soft music, and mainly meditation. I was wrong, in a good way. This class, taking place in Our Lady’s Chapel beneath the University Church, was more advanced and rigorating than the yoga class offered in the Ram Fitness center. I was sore for the whole week afterwards (also, I don’t work out, so…). I like a challenge, so this level of difficulty was just enough for me.
The class lasted about an hour, but my favorite parts were the beginning and the end. To start, the instructor lead us in meditation, asking us to embrace the struggles in our lives. Finals = struggles. So you can imagine, this is exactly the type of class you want to be in when you have 10-15 page papers weighing down on you. At the end, we were each “adjusted” with scented oils. This was the best five seconds of my life. The instructor’s magical hands lifted the headache I had for twelve hours straight that day.
