The DL on JP Raynal

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Fordham chapter.

Want the down low on the future of Fordham Law? Meet JP Raynal, a senior at Fordham College Rose Hill who has taken full advantage of the pre-law track. When JP isn’t preparing for the LSAT, he’s more than likely getting pumped up while watching a soccer game, or hanging out with his friends. For more on what makes JP a ram to remember, read below:

Where are you from? I am from Bethesda, Maryland.

What year are you? I am a senior.

What’s your major? I am a history major.

What activities are you involved in? I am the Fordham College president of the pre-law society and I am also involved in intramural soccer and volleyball, the ski club, and I used to play club lacrosse here at Fordham.

How did you decide to come to Fordham? I decided to come to Fordham because I went to a Jesuit high school in Washington D.C. and I really enjoyed my time there. I wanted to continue the Jesuit education because Fordham and the Jesuits have a very good reputation. I also think there is no better location than New York because of all the diversity, opportunity, and social setting. I also like that when on campus at Fordham, one can easily forget the bustling city of new york; it can be very relaxing.

Do you have any tips for students who are trying to balance schoolwork, extracurriculars, and other obligations like internships? College is known to some people as a ‘trying time’ and that is simply because of the fact that many people don’t have experience managing time. That’s totally fine… I remember missing one too many classes freshman year for numerous reasons (Tinkers). The best thing that helped me out, and the earlier one learns this, the better, is just to stay organized. Not OCD organized (no offense if you have OCD,) but just write down all your activities, work schedule, homework and anything you have due, in a planner or calendar and check it regularly.

What’s your favorite thing about New York? My favorite thing about New York is the simple fact that there is no possible way to eat all the food NYC has to offer, nor can one experience everything NYC has to offer. There is always something to do or see.

Do you have a favorite NYC memory? My favorite NYC memory was walking on Wall Street when I was a kid and seeing the buildings, etc.

What’s on your NYC bucket list? NYC bucket list is owning my own apartment downtown with a rooftop.

What’s your favorite class you’ve taken at Fordham? Favorite class taken at Fordham is Constitutional Law with Professor Hume.

What’s your least favorite class you’ve taken at Fordham? Least favorite was Computer Science Finite, freshman year.

Where’s your favorite spot on campus? Favorite spot on campus is Eddies.

What’s your dream job? My dream job is to be a lawyer.

What do you think the best part of a Jesuit education is? Best part of a jesuit education is the reputation that precedes it- it looks great on the resume.

What will you miss most about Fordham after graduation? I will really miss the good times I had, and continue to have with my friends who are always there for me.

What’s one thing everyone would be surprised to learn about you? Probably that I speak three languages and I was a boy scout since the 1st grade, and became an eagle scout.

If you could give one piece of advice to a Fordham collegiette, what would it be? Advice to a Fordham collegiette, single doesn’t always mean you’re looking for somebody.

Pick one!

Bronx Zoo or Botanical Gardens? Bronx Zoo duh.

Arthur Ave/Fordham Road? Does Fordham Road have Ferragosto?

Cafeteria or Grille? Caf breakfast for sure.

Hot Dog or Bagel? It’s cutting season, but taylor ham egg and cheese on an everything bagel with hot sauce works

Radio City or Madison Square Garden? MSG that place is electrifying.

Central Park or Brooklyn Bridge? Central Park and Brooklyn Bridge… if you haven’t been to either, both need to be on your bucket list.
