Curated Catwalk: Front Row at College Fashion Week NYC

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Fordham chapter.

Her Campus recognizes that almost every girl dreams of attending New York Fashion Week, but they also know that might not be realistic. And that’s the exact reason they provide us with College Fashion Week. This year they went all out recruiting sponsors to make each CFW show a memorable night. I was smart when I decided to get there half an hour before so I could take advantage of all they had to offer. TRESemmé was styling hair, while bareMinerals was providing a quick consultation in matching your skin with the perfect foundation…and then giving them away for free! They knew they had to cater to a group of ambitious girls, so once you completed your look you could have your headshot taken, hopefully for LinkedIn. CityMani was also giving free manicures and if the line wasn’t so long I would currently be showing it off. Premium Outlets had a GIF photobooth, because what’s an event without a photobooth nowadays? One of the main attractions was the European Wax Center Brow Bar where they were offering free eyebrow consultations. I promise you every girl could benefit from this. And the amount of Luna Bars they were giving away is actually indescribable. If I was just coming back from the gym, I would’ve been set.

Now let’s talk about the show. Her Campus wanted the fashion show to be about students just like us, so the singers, dancers and models were all college students. One of Fordham’s very own sophomores, Felicia Czochanski (pictured above) strutted her stuff down the runway. I thought that a majority of the looks were something that I could potentially wear. It’s nice to see something attainable up on a runway. Thanks boohoo, I’ll borrow your closet anytime. Now I knew Columbia had intelligent students, but they showed everyone at College Fashion Week NYC that they are also very talented. The all male a capella group, Columbia Sharp, was successful in getting all of the girls in the room to fall in love with them. And their hip hop dance company knew how to get down on that stage.

Lastly, the VIP goodie bag. When I looked inside and saw TRESemmé hairspray, I knew that was all I needed to be happy. Hairspray is a necessity if you didn’t already know. Overall, I anticipate the arrival of next year’s College Fashion Week with equally as awesome sponsors and entertainment! I’ll be sure to participate in everything next time around.
