John D’Olimpio, FCRH ’13

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Fordham chapter.

Single or Taken: Single and ready to mingle, baby

Major: History and theology

What he’s looking for in a significant other: Someone who is compassionate, and has a good sense of humor are two big ones. However, the one thing I find most admirable in a girl is someone who embraces her flaws and imperfections. There is nothing more attractive than a girl who is just herself, completely natural, and doesn’t feel like she needs to try and be someone else around me.

Why he picked Fordham: When I first started looking at colleges I wanted to stay in NYC, but I wanted a campus. Fordham is amazing for academics and the humanities. It was the perfect fit for me — not too big, not too small — it was just right.

Campus Involvement: Vice President of the senior class on USG, Sunday school teacher at local Bronx church, a job which I obtained through the theology department, and model in the Fashion for Philanthropy fashion show.

Hobbies: I love to cook. I’m half Irish and half Italian, but my Italian genes take over when I cook. I grew up loving food, and loving emulating my dad in the kitchen. I also enjoy martial arts, especially Brazillian jiu-jitsu, and witty banter and good conversation among friends and family.

Favorite Pick-Up Line: I don’t have a pick-up line.

What is your guilty pleasure? Watching the food network, and shows on bravo.

What is one thing that you do not understand about the opposite sex? Just one? Mixed signals. I don’t get, if you like someone, just be forward and don’t play games.

What is your hidden talent? I’m incredibly flexible and I can juggle. I’ve also been told I’m a good dancer.

If you were forced to sing karaoke, what song would you sing? “Lose Yourself” by Enimen. I rap that at karaoke every Tuesday night with my brother. If I have to actually sing a song, it’s usually Jimmy Eat World’s “The Middle,” ts easy on the voice since I can’t sing for the life of me.

Do you prefer to make the first move or have her come to you?  I hate making the move, but rarely will girls, so it’s usually on me. Girls think they look desperate if they make the first move, and guys think they look creepy (girls take note — you don’t).

What is on your Fordham bucket list? Go to the bell tower.

Who is your celebrity crush? Close call between Mila Kunis, Kate Upton and Jessica Biel. I’ll go with Mila.

What is the best way a girl can get your attention? Eye contact is key for initial attraction. Eye contact and a smile. Once we start talking, if she can keep up the conversation, and be funny, it’s a big plus.

What is your flirting technique? The move (ask me about it).

What is your life motto? It’s always important to be confident, and to always seize the moment and don’t let opportunities slip away. One of my favorite mottos is from Mike Tyson of all people: “Confidence breeds success, success breeds confidence.”
