Breaking News: A Summary For The Women On The Go

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FIU chapter.

As if keeping up with your academic, work and school agenda wasn’t enough, you are now expected to keep up with world news? Hold in your gasps because the answer is YES. With everything going on around us, it is imperative that we educate ourselves and stay current with new information. However, here at Her Campus we understand that many of our readers, just like our writers, are women on the go. And it is not so easy for women on the go to keep up with what is going on when we can’t even keep up with ourselves at times. Because we believe that an educated woman is a successful woman, we have come up with a way to keep you all informed with a summary version of the latest “hot” news.

Here are some of this week’s top news stories thus far:

1.President Trump is frustrated over delayed cabinet nominees

Yesterday evening the president took his frustration to twitter with this tweet

While Democrats may have lost the presidential election, they are not going down without a fight, (although they are not the only reason for this delay). Whatever the reason may be, the president is making it very clear, as usual, that he is not happy. But, while he claims that it is “the longest such delay in the history of our country,” this is not true. Things do seem to be moving slower for our current president, but according to The Washington Post, past presidents have also had to deal with delays.

2. #LetLizSpeak is now trending on Twitter

Last night Sen. Elizabeth Warren was stopped from speaking on the Senate floor for reading a letter by civil rights icon, Coretta Scott King. According to The Washington Post, Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, interrupted Sen. Warren’s speech opposing the attorney general nominee Jeff Sessions and said that “The senator has impugned the motives and conduct of our colleague from Alabama.” Many people immediately took their concerns to Twitter, voicing their opinions about Sen. Warren being silenced.

3. President Trump’s fact-check disaster

Yesterday the president said that the U.S. murder rate “is the highest it’s been in 47 years.” He also went on to say, “I’d say that in a speech and everybody was surprised because the press doesn’t like to tell it like it is.” Well President Trump, maybe that is because that is NOT how it is. According to a CNN report of FBI crime data, crime in the United States is not the highest its been in 47 years. Top White House adviser, Kellyanne Conway, appeared on CNN to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UWuc18xISwI
