Something of note about me is that I am a self-professed cinephile. I love everything pertaining to or even synonymous with cinema. When I’m sad or upset, I watch a movie or an episode from a funny sitcom to take my mind off things. When I’m procrastinating on an assignment or just extremely bored, I watch a movie. For those of you who love movies as much as I do, and for those who get bored as often as I do, here is a list of ten action movies I think you’ll enjoy watching. I chose these movies specifically because they’re movies that I have enjoyed countless times without ever getting sick of them.

1. Inception (2010)

While I don’t usually like to pick favorites of anything, this movie is my one exception. It is my favorite movie EVER. Everything about it is phenomenal, right down to the film score (Hans Zimmer is a genius, there is no changing my mind).

2. Any movie based on a comic book…ever

No joke, you could literally watch any comic book-based movie and it will cure your boredom in a hot minute. Most of these movies have an action scene every five minutes (just kidding, it’s not that often). A few I would recommend off the top of my head, any movie from Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy, any of the Captain America movies, either of the Avengers, etc.

3. Need for Speed (2014)

If you love racing films, you will definitely enjoy this one. It’s a simple “wronged man seeks revenge” storyline with fancy cars, a tight-knit group of friends, and the ever present beautiful female passenger. Oh and it’s based on a video game.

4. Olympus has fallen (2013)

Maybe I’m weird, but there’s just something so captivating about watching Gerard Butler shoot his way through a sea of enemies in the White House to rescue a captured president. If you really like this movie, there’s a sequel entitled London has Fallen. Same Premise, different continent.

5. Taken (2008)

A former CIA agent stops at nothing to get his daughter back. Liam Neeson is another one of those actors that fights and fake-kills people with such elegance.

6. The Magnificent Seven (2016)

If you like westerns and attractive men, this is definitely the movie for you. Chris Pratt is one of the seven and, if I do say so myself, looks damn good in a cowboy hat. A bounty hunter recruits six men to join him in protecting a small town from an evil rich dude.

7. The Mummy (1999)

Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz make a gorgeous couple in this classic film based on the tale as old as time: white folks stick their noses where they don’t belong and in the process, unleash death and destruction.

8. Independence Day (1996)

Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum face off against aliens in this science fiction blockbuster. That speech President Whitmore makes just before the final battle is one of my favorite movie speeches ever (I tip my hat to you screenwriters).

9. G.I. Joe Rise of Cobra (2009)

Channing Tatum and Marlon Wayans join an elite military organization and face off against an evil organization. Also included in this film? Totally badass ninjas with serious skills.

10. Colombiana (2011)

After her parents are murdered, Zoe Saldana’s character grows up to become a ruthless assassin hellbent on exacting revenge. Our leading lady is a total BAMF in this movie. There’s just something extra special about watching a woman kick butt in a movie.
