Ways to Layer a Denim Jacket for Winter

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Fairfield chapter.

Grey skies, cold gusts of wind, and early sunsets indicate that the season of winter is in full swing. Goodbye to the vest and flannel combination and hello to puffy winter jackets that reach your ankles. One item that could, and should, remain in your closet all season long is a denim jacket. People tend to stay away from wearing this jacket during the winter season because it may not offer as much warmth as a puffer jacket. However, you do not have to sacrifice warmth to stay fashionable. Here are some ways to layer a denim jacket for winter!

1. Coats on Coats on Coats

Add some street style to a chic outfit with a denim jacket. Bonus: it is another layer to keep you warm!

2. Sweater Weather

A denim jacket paired with chunky knits and long scarfs are a must to combat the chilly days.

3. Fabulous in Fur

Fur is a popular trend for this winter season. If you have a fur vest that you tend to wear in the fall, you can reuse it and wear it in the winter. The fur vest adds a unique texture to the outfit.

4. Baggy and Bundled

A sweatshirt is a college girl’s best friend. To keep an outfit from looking too casual, put on a denim jacket. It creates a stylish element to the outfit.

5. Cardigan Crazy

A denim jacket does not always have to be the outermost layer worn. Find the coziest cardigan in your closet and layer it over your denim jacket to catch people’s attention. If you feel the jacket and cardigan are not enough, a flannel can be added. The more layers the better!
