Gigi Throws Elbows At Fashion Week

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Fairfield chapter.

Milan Fashion week has become about a lot more than just fashion after Gigi Hadid elbowed a man in the face after he picked her up and grabbed her from behind. That man happened to be Vitalii Sediuk, who has made a name for himself by pranking celebrities including Kim Kardashian and Vogue editor Anna Wintour.

Hadid was not okay with being grabbed from behind and quickly took defense. She is now facing backlash on social media for not behaving the way a model would; however her fans are sticking by her and proud of her for using self defense. Girl power is seriously so strong and not just in the sense that we support Gigi, however in the sense that each and every girl out there should not feel scared when walking the streets. We should know how to protect ourselves.

I couldn’t be more impressed with the way Gigi handled herself in this situation. At the end of the day, when you feel that you are being attacked it does not matter if you are a model or a lawyer, you need to act to defend yourself; not to fit the image of a role that you have.

Whether this was considered a harmless prank or not, Gigi felt she needed to protect herself and she should be 100% respected for that.  Hadid took to Twitter to explain she had every right to do what she did. If a man comes up to you from behind it is natural to go into defense mood. Gigi’s incident is a reminder that women are a lot stronger than we think, and we never give ourselves enough credit for that. You go Gigi!
