5 Ways to Wear Dresses as the Weather Gets Colder

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Fairfield chapter.

Dresses are not only a collegiette’s go-to way to look cute, but they’re an entire outfit in one piece. Just because the temperatures may be dropping, we shouldn’t have to forgo the style and convenience of our favorite dresses. Don’t pack them away just yet, because here are some of our favorite ways to wear dresses all year long.

1. Switch to Sweaters

Not only are sweater dresses super trendy, but they’re extremely warm as well. Mimic your favorite dress styles in a thicker, cold weather-friendly fabric.

2. Go OTK

If you’re wearing a shorter dress, don’t surrender to the cold. Replace pants with trendy over the knee boots that won’t take away from your look, but will still keep your legs warm.

3. Layer, layer, layer!

For a more avant garde look, consider layering a shirt under your favorite short sleeve or tank dress. When done right, this is an incredibly chic, stand-out look.

4. Turn to Tights

As much as tights may remind us of elementary school, wearing them under a dress is a perfect way to stay a little bit warmer than going bare-legged. Experiment with patterned or colored tights to add interest to a plain dress, too.

5. Pop on a Pullover

Although we typically associate dresses with cardigans when it comes to adding an extra layer, wearing a pullover sweater instead adds a little something extra to your look. Choose a chunky knit or contrasting color to style over your favorite dress for the winter months.

Stay cozy, ladies!
