15 Ways Taylor Swift is Your Spirit Animal

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Fairfield chapter.

Taylor Swift’s recent release of her newest album 1989″ reminds us why she is a pop culture princess. She is widely recognized for her talent and her retaliatory song lyrics as well as her ever-changing style and seriously adorable lack of rhythm. She is quirky, lovable, and so relatable that she could pass for your average collegiette. Here are 15 reasons that Taylor Swift should be your spirit animal:

1. She is goofy. Taylor is silly and a child at heart, always finding ways to make her friends and her fans smile.

2. She is a loyal friend. Taylor’s high profile friends include Selena Gomez, Lena Dunham, and Lorde and her Insta pics show her having fun with her closest girls on a daily basis.

3. She loves cats. And I mean, loves. Taylor adores her kittens and, like us, celebrates #NationalCatDay every day by sharing her cuddle buddies on social media. Let’s be honest, we all post way too many pet selfies and Taylor is only human.

4. She is the ultimate fan girl. Just watch her freak out over Justin Timberlake. Even mega pop stars know that he is a God among men. I just give her props for not fainting.

5. She can make fun of herself. Taylor is super light hearted and knows that laughter is the best medicine. Her newest single, Shake It Off, enthusiastically embraces that she doesn’t have the smoothest of moves and shows the critics that they don’t affect her.

6. She is confident. Tay’s words of encouragement, sassy attitude and ability to stand up for herself give us all the confidence we need to be as bold as she is.

7. She is a terrible dancer. Her gawky attempts to “shake, shake, shake” remind us that there is no shame in our inability to gracefully pop, lock, and drop it on the dance floor.

8. She loves to bake. She is undeniably an old soul and she loves to bake desserts and create arts and crafts projects. Taylor even recently participated in a “Bake It Off” contest with celebrity chef Jamie Oliver to benefit the Stand Up To Cancer campaign, making her a sweetheart with a sweet tooth.

9. She is the queen of girl power. Taylor is someone who believes that happiness and confidence are the prettiest things you can wear, and that she is tired of girls tearing each other down. She has also recently been very supportive of her friend Emma Watson’s HeForShe campaign, saying that Emma explained feminism in an “intellectual, beautiful, poignant way.” Agreed, T Swift, agreed.

10.  She is a rapper. I’m going to let you in on a little secret – there is a very good chance that Taylor is the real Slim Shady. Ok, maybe not, but we’ve all tried, and failed, to rap the fast part to our favorite song before and we can all feel her pain.

11She is unapologetically herself. Taylor knows that she has faults and that she is unlucky in love but she never stops being herself and  never changes to fit Hollywood’s image.

12.  She is addicted to Tumblr. Taylor has created her own blog and has been seen wearing a “no it’s Becky” tee, referencing the famous Tumblr post that suggests that Taylor was a girl’s friend, Becky, who “snorted marijuana” at a party one night. Taylor is honestly the coolest.

13.  She can rock the red lipstick that you’ve always wished you could. I look like a clown when I wear red lipstick and she looks like a goddess. I feel like I should be jealous, but I can’t be because she is just that fierce.

14.  She is as obsessed with Grey’s Anatomy and Law and Order: SVU as we are. Taylor named her cats after Dr. Meredith Grey and detective Olivia Benson. She has even said that she would play a corpse on Grey’s Anatomy because her obsession is a “deep true love, and it will never die.”

15. She knows that she is awesome. Whether you appreciate her music (either openly or by secretly belting it in your car) or not, Taylor is a pretty cool role model and the ultimate spirit animal.
