Unlocking Hope in Uganda

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at F and M chapter.

While life in college tends to revolve around school, school, and more school, it can be hard to find ways to help out the community and world around us. Fortunately, I have found a solution for you! Thanks to those annoying Instagram ads, I learned about an organization dedicated to providing education, clothing, food, health care, and housing utilities for girls living in Uganda.

The program is called Unlock Hope, and in partnership with Think Humanity, the profits received from the products they sell go directly towards helping girls in Uganda since 2008. Some of the products featured include a key necklace in the shape of Africa with “Unlock Hope” embossed, a baseball hat that says “Hope” with the “o” in the shape of Africa and a key, and a tank top shirt that reads “Focus on the Good.”

Think Humanity, a non-profit, provides another opportunity to help the refugees in Uganda by offering trips through their organization to the hostel in Hoima, Uganda, and gives 100% of their donations to the people living there. There are other partner organizations they work with as well, such as Global Healing, Red Empress Foundation, Americans for Philanthropy, and Vitamin Angels.

For someone like myself who finds it hard to balance all the requirements of college but still wants to give back to the community, this organization is a perfect way to do it. I purchased the key necklace and have been in love with it ever since.

If you’d like to help educate, house, and feed girls in Uganda, check out unlockhope.com or thinkhumanity.org to see how you can contribute to their altruistic and generous efforts!
