This past weekend at F&M, a campus group known as F&M Options launched a premiere event called Summer to Fummer. It took place the first full weekend that everyone was back on campus. Various events were scheduled to take place Thursday through Saturday. Summer to Fummer ended spectacularly with the Wildfire Music Festival, which occurred Saturday, September 6th from 1pm to 10:30pm. I think it’s a fairly accurate statement to say that this was the most anticipated event by the students. Everyone had been looking forward to it all weekend. Through the course of the day, nine different groups performed on a makeshift stage on Hartman Green. In order of performance, the groups were:

1:00 Three Man Cannon

2:00 Pete Donnelly

3:00 Juston Stens

4:00 Work Drugs

5:00 Quincy Mumford & The Reason Why

6:00 Culture Blue

7:00 Bachelors of Fine Arts

8:00 Brothers from Another

9:15 DJ Muve

Wildfire Music Festival was hosted by the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity and the Alpha Phi sorority. They also partnered with F&M Options in order to make the festival part of Summer to Fummer. Admission to Wildfire was free for all F&M students, though donations were welcomed. Any proceeds from the music festival went to Music For Everyone (http://www.musicforeveryone.net/), a non-profit organization that helps fund certain music programs throughout Lancaster County.

There was also various food available, such as a make-your-own lemonade stand and some free pizza. Many groups sold some of their merchandise on Hartman. There were also a few carnival like games happening, with many people playing volleyball or Frisbee as well.

Unfortunately, the weather wasn’t cooperating as much as many people would have hoped. Around three, a thunderstorm sprang up and everything had to be moved inside, where a group continued to play. Luckily, the storm didn’t last too long. Once the weather cleared, everything was moved back outside. The skies were clear for the rest of the night, so the music festival could continue as planned.

People had been attending Wildfire the entire day, but the largest crowd appeared around six, when Culture Blue took the stage. Culture Blue is a “hip hop jazz group” formed by students from the F&M community. Rapper Hannibal Antar performs most of the vocals, while pianist and tenor saxophonist Joe Marotta and trumpeter Zach Ezickson accompany him. They were a huge hit with Wildfire attendees. After their performance, the crowd maintained a decent size, especially when DJ Muve took the stage to finish off Wildfire.

Overall, Wildfire was a huge success and it’s an event many students hope becomes a yearly tradition.
