Miss Hayley Smith ’19

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at F and M chapter.

Name: Hayley Smith

Year: 2019

HC: Intended Major?

HS: I want to double major in English and Psych, and hopefully minor in Art. I’m half way there. I want to take a street art class over the summer.

HC: Hometown?

HS: Annapolis, Maryland

HC: Dream Job?

HS: I want to be a judge. I think I’m really passionate about the whole system. I took a course at John Hopkins over the summer where I sat in court for three days; it was so cool and so interesting.

HC: Fave TV show?

HS: I absolutely love TV shows. I’ve already seen the shows that everyone is watching, like I’ve seen all of the seasons twice. I love Broad City and The Office. I’ve watched all of of SVU and all of Criminal Minds, I’m watching Lie To Me, now.

HC: Go-to snack?

HS: I love food. I don’t even know, I just love food. I either want cheese, like good cheese, or Cheetos cheese puffs. I’m always craving cheese and candy, except for those weird jellybeans, which are like fart taste.

HC: What is something someone has taught you that you will never forget?

HS: My mom has told me this thing since I was very young and I’ve hated it every time she’s said it, “fake it till you make it”. I just wanna be upset and lie in bed, but it’s actually so true, and now I tell people that. My dad always told me this “fly with the eagles don’t walk around with turkeys,” which I love, I just think it’s funny and true.

HC: What do you value most about life?

HS: Family and friends, that’s the biggest thing for me; I guess ’cause I have a really big family.

HC: Fave halloween candy?

HS: I really like candy corn. I’ll eat, like, 5 and then feel awful, and then I wait 10 minutes and eat more. I hate it and love it.

HC: If you could time travel, where would you go?

HS: I would wanna go to the sixties, because I think people were passionate about things during that time. Woodstock would be cool to see ’cause it’s a part of history, and the musicians’ fight for what people believe in.

HC: What is your life motto?

HS: I think that I just go with it. I don’t really have a life motto.

HC: Craziest thing you’ve ever done?

HS: All of the camping trips I went on in high school; I think camping is a whole different thing, you get to really experience nature, we don’t get to do that as much as people have done it in the past.

HC: Three words you would use to describe yourself?

HS: Opinionated, passionate, and strong.

HC: Fave word?

HS: I like “River” ’cause it’s my middle name. Any word that sounds really natural in a way. I don’t like words I can’t pronounce or that I’m unsure about.

HC: Fave emoji?

HS: I use bitmoji, where you can create your own person. It’s fun and hip, you can send people things that look like you.

HC: What sets your heart on fire?

HS: I wrote a four-page poem over the summer about body image and how women are treated in the world, and how it’s not right. I want to perform it.

HC: What song would be in a movie made about you?

HS: I love Amy Winehouse so much but I don’t know if any of her songs would embody me, just because she was a drug addict. I don’t know. There are so many artists that I love and a lot of music that I feel connected to; I would want to take pieces from all their work and create something just for me.
