How to Handle Your Senior Year

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at F and M chapter.

So, it’s your senior year. The time has finally come that you can see the light at the end of the college tunnel. Maybe you’re happy about this. Maybe it makes you incredibly sad. Or, maybe, like me, you have mixed feelings that are quite bittersweet. Whatever it is, here are some tips to function in your year of lasts.

Make plans for the future

Think about what you’re going to do once you graduate. Begin applying for jobs, fellowships, or grad schools. The sooner you begin working on these goals and make a decision about what you’ll do after graduation, the sooner you’ll feel that sweet relief and be able to thoroughly enjoy your senior year. All of my friends are frantically applying for Fullbrights, law school, med school, or jobs, and it’s such a great feeling of peace knowing I have a job and a plan for after I graduate. It’s never too early to take care of your future, so you don’t feel as stressed out!

Work hard

Do as well as you can in your classes for senior year. You want to finish strong and achieve the goals you set for yourself in the past. While this concept is vitally important, you also need to remember to not become to wrapped up in school and your future plans that you forget to have fun with your friends. Work hard, play hard.

Spend time with your friends

It’s likely that your friends were the most important parts of your college career. Remember to spend lots of time with them and enjoy these few remaining months you have together. Never again will you live so close together in a location where real adult responsibilities aren’t as prevalent in your lives. College happens once in your lifetime, so make the most of your last year.

Enjoy it!

All of my points have been circling around this one; no matter what you do, enjoy your senior year! It only happens once and when you graduate, you’re going to have to deal with more responsibilities, even if you continue with schooling. Your undergrad will be easier than any grad or law school you go to, so take advantage of the time you have now. Take a class that doesn’t relate to your major or take a spontaneous road trip. Make the most of your senior year!
