Emily and Livia Meneghin ’15

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at F and M chapter.
Hometown, Major, Activities on Campus:
Born in Genova, Italy; live in Eastchester, NY … Emily is a Theatre/Italian Joint Major and Livia is an English Creative Writing Major with Italian Minor … Emily is in SISTERS, African Drumming, Intervarsity Christian Fellowship, Interfaith, Voices for Justice and Livia is a captain for Track & Field and writes for the College Reporter. We both DJ at WFNM as YapYapRadio (1-2pm Fridays)

These four years have gone fast! What has been your favorite memory?
Emily: My favorite memory is more of a moment, well, many moments. I will always cherish those very long, late-night talks with friends, often accompanied by a Turkey Hill run: theoretical or more commonly emotional conversations entwined with laughter and small jokes.
Livia: That’s really hard to say. I have a three-way tie between Posse Plus Retreat 2013, competing at ECAC’s (Regionals) and my semester abroad in Bath, England!

You both are really proud of your Italian heritage. Do you have a favorite tradition, motto, or habit that helps you get through challenging times at F&M?
Emily: My favorite tradition would have to be making all the food and desserts at each holiday with my grandmother over the years: apple pie for Thanksgiving, over 500 cookies of two types for Christmas, raisin bread for Easter and more. Family is very important. I’ve noticed over my time at F&M that I speak more and more Italian in my daily life, to my friends’ expenses, haha. Some things just come more naturally in Italian for me. Through challenging times, sometimes I prefer to speak in Italian and often will journal in Italian.
Livia: We make and eat really good food! My favorite is pasta with pesto sauce. And we speak in Italian, say “buona notte” and “ti voglio bene.”

What is something that you guys don’t have in common?
Emily: When we’re upset, what we need is not the same. She needs space, and I need attention, physical affection like hugs, etc. We both participate in and enjoy similar things though, such as the arts, sport, social justice, etc. We’re stretched in very different ways.
Livia: We actually are very different. Simply stated, I am pretty introverted, and like to go to the gym. Em loves company, and prefers the pool.

What’s your best twin story? Have you guys ever swapped or do you have a funny story where friends were confused?
Emily: Liv told the story of when we swapped. I think we’ve always tried our hardest to help people see that we we individuals, it never was a desire to confuse people more. I do remember someone eating food straight out of my hands; I did not know who they were at all, but Liv did.
Livia: We did swap places once in High School. I had a study hall and Em was in US History. She left the room to go to the bathroom. Then I replaced her. Our teacher didn’t notice. So after 10 minutes I left the room and Emily came back in. He didn’t notice until I had US History a few periods later.

Ben or John?
Emily: I also have been the John mascot. Each man has his strengths and flaws, and I want to be a person like that. Ben was a sucker for love, so I’ll go with Ben.
Livia: I love John Marshall. I was the John mascot, so I may be biased.
I am currently a senior at Franklin and Marshall College in the picturesque city of Lancaster, PA. I am a Spanish and History major and I'm excited to be a writer for HerCampus F&M. I love finding new and interesting ways to design nails and always share it with others. I also love all things of adventurous and exotic natures, stories, art, and cute boys (let's not forget what we really are checking on HerCampus).
Along with being the Her Campus Franklin and Marshall Campus Correspondent, I am also the editor-in-chief of Epilogue, F&M's literary Magazine, Staff Writer for The College Reporter, F&M's student newspaper, and a very active member of Phi Sigma Pi National Honor Fraternity. When not hard at work, you can find me writing, reading, geeking out over Disney movies with my friends, or doing art projects.
