Everyone gets the January blues, but that doesn’t mean everything is on a downward trajectory; the start of the year can be the most exciting for the film industry. So before all those deadlines start coming through, get a head start on upcoming 2017 film releases. Here at HCX we thought we’d give you a little snapshot of some ‘under the radar’ films coming out this year. Jot it down in your new diary, grab a coat, and take a break from the daunting start of term with these killer films…

 

A Cure for Wellness

Release Date: February 2017

American-German psychological horror thriller film directed by Gore Verbinski. Written by Justin Haythe.

A young executive is sent to retrieve the CEO of his company, from a mysterious “wellness centre” situated remotely in the Swiss Alps. All is not what it seems; the spa’s miraculous treatments are unravelled leaving terrifying secrets, the protagonist diagnosed with the same illness the guests experience, longing for the cure.

Tulip Fever

Release date: February 2017

Directed by Justin Chadwick. Adapted from Deborah Moggach’s novel.

Tulip Fever is set in 17th Century Netherlands, whereby an artist (Dane DeHaan) is commissioned to paint Sophia (Alicia Vikander). As the artist falls for Sophia, the two begin to invest in the risky ‘tulip mania’ market to build a future together.
