NeverOk Campaign

The #NeverOk campaign, set to tackle sexual harassment and help educate students on what constitutes sexual harassment, has been launched by the University of Exeter’s Student Guild just weeks after NUS Research suggested that one in four (26%) of students have suffered unwelcome sexual advances. Various AU sports clubs, Actor David Tennant and Ben Bradshaw MP, have backed the campaign.

Cases of Ebola announced in the US

It has been announced that Nina Pham and Amber Joy Vison, two nurses who treated Ebola victim Thomas Eric Duncan, and a third unnamed Texan health worker, have also contracted the deadly Ebola virus. 48 others who may have been in contact with Duncan; who travelled from Liberia to Dallas to visit family, are also currently being observed.

 

Oscar Pistorius trial

Fallen South African athlete Oscar Pistorius’ sentence for culpable homicide after shooting dead his girlfriend Reena Steenkamp will be delivered on Tuesday.

Whilst he faces up to 15 years in jail with the prosecution calling for a minimum of 10 years, Pistorius’ defence team has called for an alternate community service and “house arrest”. Such a suggestion, the prosecution has said would be “shockingly disproportionate”.

 

Jude Law and Ex Girlfriend confirm pregnancy

Jude Law has announced he is set to become a father for the fifth time with former girlfriend Catherine Harding. Jude Law, 41, and Catherine Harding, 33, although no longer together, allegedly had a brief romance earlier this year.

 

Nepal Blizzards

At least 29 people are known to have died and more than 200 people have been rescued following disastrous storms that hit areas across the Himalayas in Nepal. Officials say that the death toll is likely to rise further, with many bodies still left to recover from the snow.
