The Most Unusual AirBnb’s in the UK

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Exeter chapter.

As students, we can’t exactly be picky when it comes to where we stay when we travel,

but sometimes you want something a bit more special than the usual hostel or BnB. This is why AirBnB is an absolute lifesaver, just one click and you can find plenty of amazing, and often quirky, places to stay at the same price, or less, than a normal BnB.

Want to know the best part? You don’t even have to go far to find some of these incredible homes, a lot of them are right here in the UK, meaning you can have a getaway without the pesky cost of plane flights. Here are a few of the best ones we found to stir your wanderlust!

Here’s one for the bookworms….

Ever wondered what it would be like to own and work in your very own bookshop? Well, bookworms, rejoice, because now you can find out! In Wigtown, Scotland’s National Book Town, you can stay in an apartment above ‘The Open Book’ for just £28 a night, and during the day when you’re not exploring the quaint town or walking by the sea, you get to run the bookshop yourself (with some guidance from the owners). The perfect way to test out every booklovers dream, without the commitment!

Or one that you didn’t even know was possible…

Did you know that there is an apartment within the clock tower of St Pancreas Station? No, neither did we, but it looks as luxurious and quirky as you could imagine it would be. It isn’t exactly cheap, but it is in the clock tower of St Pancreas, so we’ll let it slide, and the look on your flatmates faces when you tell them where you were last weekend? Priceless.

Or one for the nature lovers….

Did you ever have a tree house when you were a kid, or envy your friends who did? Well, you can re-live the days of your youth once again, except at a whole new level, in this whimsical tree house for adults, just a stone throw away in Cornwall. It is straight out of a fairy tale and is perfect for a romantic getaway (or even just as a special treat to yourself)!

Or the one that would make for a great Insta….

If you are the outdoorsy type, but want a slight step up from the cold and muck of normal camping, then give this glamping near Bath a go! Just think, a roomy bell tent with nice comfy beds and a stove heater to keep you cosy, plus an indoor heated pool and games room if you’re in the mood. It’s not exactly roughing it, but it’s a step closer to nature and the perfect way to wind down.

Or if none of those are up your street, then why not stay in a windmill?

Staying in a windmill isn’t exactly the first thing that comes to mind when planning a weekend away, but maybe it should be. This windmill-turned-family home in Staffordshire definitely puts it on the map, especially the top floor bedroom with surrounding views of the countryside. Bonus, if you want a bit more than a peaceful countryside getaway, its only 45 minutes away from Alton Towers Theme Park!

Currently studying English Literature. I was born in New York, but I call England home. Before starting at the University of Exeter I took a gap year. I spent 5 months road tripping and blogging my way across the USA, seeing 37 states in just over 16,000 miles. Needless to say, I love to travel. I am also an avid bookworm, a writer, a yogi, and a (lazy) hiker, among other things. I have a soft spot for bees, sci-fi, and red velvet cupcakes.
