5 Trips to Wanderlust in 2017

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Exeter chapter.

Revision time is literally the worst – especially over the Christmas holidays when all you want to do is drink and be merry! So we suggest you steal some time away from your colour-coded Post-its and indulfe in some much-needed wonderlust. From surfing in Portugal to finding your inner zen in Bali, we have rounded up the best trips to wanderlust over 2017 as the perfect revision break.

1. Find your ‘Inner Zen’ in Bali

If you are looking to escape the craziness, there is no better place to go than Bali and we hear the weather this time of year is not too bad either. This trip from Topdeck combines all the best aspects of Bali into one neat trip, meaning that you don’t have to stress about organising anything. From exploring the surf on the idyllic white beaches of Canggu or finding your zen in Ubud, the trip showcases Bali’s stunning landscape, stopping off in Canggu, Ubud and Seminyak. With plenty of “own” time to capture and share Bali’s wanderlust-inspiring landscape on Instagram or tuck into some delicious local cuisine, this is the perfect treat for young adventurers.

2. Go in search of ‘The Ultimate Luxe’ in The Maldives

If your Instagram feed is full of infinity pools and serene beaches, then Cara Delevigne’s recent jaunt with her besties to the Maldives is certainly something to consider. Cara and her pals stayed at the five-star Finolhu Baa Atol hotel which is home to beachside villas and the renowned fish and crab shack. Filled with golden sandy beaches and dreamy huts above the bluest of seas, there is nothing about this island that isn’t luxurious. While hiring a private resort on the island is bound to cost a little more than a VIP booth at Unit One, once can certainly dream…

3. Go on a ‘Surfari’ in Portugal

Surf bunnies do not have to look too far to ride the perfect wave next year. ICYMI, Portugal has an amazing surf scene as well as beautiful beaches that will put our favourite Exmouth to shame. Newbies should try out Topdeck’s new Surfari offering. Designed to appeal to surfers of all levels, this trip takes passengers to some of Portugal’s most idyllic beaches in Lagos and Ericeira. Here, you’ll have the chance to immerse yourself in the carefree beach life with surf, sun and yoga.  After a few days of ultimate chills, Topdeckers will hit the streets of Portugal’s buzzing capital, Lisbon, with a guided walking tour and finish off their trip with an authentic Portuguese seafood feast.

4. Go Chasing Waterfalls in Iguazu Falls

Waterfalls are officially where travel blog heaven is made and there are no falls better than that of the Iguaza Falls in South America. Head to the border of the Argentian province of Misiones and the Brazilian state of Parana to catch a glimpse of these beauties. The falls attract more than one million visitors a year but the crowds are most definitely worth it when you set your sights on the astounding view. If you want to make this wanderlust goal a reality, Contiki have several trips that include a visit to the falls.

5. Go Skiing in Japan

If you are looking for a ski trip with a difference, try carving a sneaky ski adventure to Japan into your holiday calendar. Yes, the alps might be right on our doorstep, but Japan is often an overlooked ski destination. With over 500 ski resorts across the country and views for days, this is definitely an adventure to add to your bucket list. Solo skiiers at a loose end this year should consider this trip to Hakuba that also includes a cheeky dinner in Toyko #foodieheaven.

Exams may be looming but if you need to ‘just get away’ (in the Made in Chelsea sense) then we’re sure you’d love any of these destinations. But if, like many of us, you’re at the end of your overdraft…well, at least you can add these beautiful places to your Wanderlust To-Do List.
