This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Exeter Cornwall chapter.

This week we had a quick catch up with Amy, our HC President for Exeter-Cornwall, to reflect on the the term so far!

Name: Amy Beaumont

Course: (3rd year) English and History

Why did you decide to become a Campus Correspondent?

I realised roughly half way through my first year that if I wanted to be a professional writer – which is basically the reason why I came to university in the first place – I really, really needed to get some proper experience. I saw the position of CC for Exeter Cornwall advertised on Facebook and I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to improve my job prospects, to write more about things that I cared about, and, probably most importantly, to push myself out of my comfort zone. Building and managing a team isn’t easy, and I spend an unhealthy amount of time worrying about content requirements, but I’m so proud of all the progress that we’ve made and the amazing articles we produce every week.

What do you aim to use Her Campus as a platform for?

My favourite thing about Her Campus is that it gives everyone, but particularly female identifying people, a space for their voices to be heard, and I think that’s always my number one priority when it comes to using our chapter as a platform. We have an amazing opportunity here to talk about things that we care about and have people read it, whether it’s about feminism or mental health or sexuality or even just a TV show that you really, really like. Ultimately, I see our chapter as a way for people to share what they care about – and it makes for the most engaging content!

What’s your favourite article written by a HC Exeter-Cornwall team member so far this year?

Honestly, I love all the articles that our team has produced this term – they’re such a creative bunch! I particularly loved all the articles that we produced over FXYouCan week, such as ‘My Ongoing Journey Towards Self-Acceptance’ and ‘Body Positivity and Setting Challenges For Yourself’. I also love all the articles we’ve published on self care, such as ‘10 New Things To Try This Week’, the awesome profiles we’ve shared, like the one with the FXU African Caribbean Society, and also on shopping sustainably, such as ‘Changing the World Through Ethical Shopping’. But, like I said, I genuinely love everything that we publish, and I’m so grateful to work with such talented ‘lil people.
