First came January, a month filled with resolutions and ambitions that all seemed so wonderful, and so full of hope. That is, until you realised it was February and you had not only not achieved any of your new year resolutions, but you hadn’t even started working on them. But have no fear! Here’s how to kick this year’s ass back into shape, with a few super easy tricks on how to get your life back on track!

1 . Create a masterplan!

As with most things, the most fun part of the process is the planning. Start off by outlining what you want from this year – and be as creative as you want! I’m talking gel pens and Comic Sans font, here. The key is to focus on what, and how.

For example, one of my resolutions was to get fitter in time for summer. My plan goes a little like this:

  • What do I want? To get fitter.
  • How do you get fitter? Do more exercise!
  • How do you do more exercise? Go to more classes.
  • How do you go to more classes? –  You join a gym!

Many of you will be saying, “Yes, that’s all well and good, and I know what I need to do, but I don’t have the motivation!” Well, that’s where tip number two comes in…

2. Get Inspired!

This is where your finely honed researching skills from all that uni work will come in handy. For every goal or plan you make, find a reason why you’ve made it. Step one was all about the what and how, now it’s time to get motivated!. Find an example of someone you admire and keep them in your mind. Now it is very, very important that you do not compare yourself to them. This is not about becoming someone you’re not, nor is about beating yourself up because you aren’t this person, particularly in regards to fitness and weight. This is about inspiration, and this will be the thing to keep you stuck to your masterplan. So, for example, I am super inspired by how far my fittest friends can run and how they turn up to the gym every day, so I try to think about what they would do if they were in my position.

Even better inspire yourself! Be inspired by how hard you can box or how fast you can cycle. Impressing yourself should be your new why in this plan.

3. Organize yo’ self.

You have the what, how and why, and now it’s time for the when. The best advice I have been given recently was from my superwoman housemate, who is possibly the most productive person in history, and she told me to get a giant whiteboard. On this whiteboard you will schedule in classes, organise your work schedule, and just generally feel like a badass movie scientist when writing everything on it. If whiteboards aren’t your thing, use the calender on your phone to ensure you get reminders and keep on top of deadlines and goals!

4. Let yourself chill!

This one is super important. Schedule in a day or two to do nothing. Absolutely nothing. Providing you have been sticking to the plan, you will need to rest from all the productivity. Even if you haven’t it is still super important to treat yo’ self. Practice some self care and whack on a face mask and a good film, and put your feet up. By taking scheduled rest, you avoid burning out your body and mind. Remember that these goals are for you and if they don’t make you happy, you should question why you are doing them in the first place!

5. Get a banging playlist.

If some old school Kanye doesn’t get you to that spin class, nothing else will. Playlists are great for getting you motivated and your head in the game, so ask around your friends what songs get them pumped and add them into a playlist that will get you grooving! Remember in times of procrastination and crisis, always ask yourself – what would Beyonce do?

Get out there and kick some ass, gals!
