Why all the Interest in Pinterest?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Emory chapter.

Over the past year I have developed an obsession with Pinterest. In an effort to justify and possibly even validate my addiction, I went out in search of other pinning aficionados. Asking simple questions regarding the frequency of their indulgence, the focus of their browsing and the immediate effects on their style, I am quite thrilled to find that girls across Emory’s campus are also using this site as their fashion inspiration.

The responses regarding frequency of use range from the few who hardly ever use Pinterest to the majority who check it a few times a week–and then there are the true enthusiasts, like me, for whom it is a daily pastime. Savannah, a sophomore featured above, browses several times a week and uses Pinterest for outfit inspiration when she’s at a loss. Taylor, a senior pictured below, likes that she can “shop” without actually spending any money. Emory Senior Celeste describes her style as feminine, fun and comfortable, as you can see at bottom from her flowy salmon sundress. She claims that Pinterest has exposed her to combinations she wouldn’t have necessarily thought of on her own! So many young women are turning to Pinterest for the do’s and don’t’s of dressing for class, interviews, weddings, clubs, dinner dates and every other conceivable occasion.

So in summary, ladies, when you are looking for a little distraction from copious amounts of reading and practice sets, head on over to Pinterest.com and start defining your style. The beginning of a new year, whether it is your first or your last here at Emory, is the perfect time to indulge in the fashionista within. How you dress can define how others see you; Pinterest helps you always make a great impression!

Happy Pinning!

Allison is a senior at Emory University studying Journalism and the rather complicated major of Interdisciplinary Studies: Visual Studies and Contemporary Cultures. She is slightly obsessed with magazines and has written and edited for Her Campus since its start at Emory her freshman year. At Emory she can generally be found giving tours to prospies, hanging with her ADPi sisters, DJ-ing with WMRE and om-ing in yoga classes. Allison enjoys music, drawing, and fashion, and like most college students she is completely addicted to coffee. After graduation she wants to work in public relations or marketing, but her secret dream is to become Lena Dunham. Follow her on Twitter: @alldayallison
