The Vagina Monologues

Tuesday, February 21, 2012
When:
Wednesday, February 29, 2012 - 7:00pm - Friday, March 2, 2012 - 9:00pm

Emory’s Center for Women is bringing back V-Day at the end of February. Originally produced by Eve Ensler, The Vagina Monologues aims to raise awareness against violence towards women. The V-Day movement promotes events, including but not limited to The Vagina Monologues, to increase awareness, raise money and revitalize existing anti-violence organizations.

Emory’s production of The Vagina Monologues is a must-see for all women on campus. Cast member Tori Roisman says it’s important to go, “because [Emory women] can learn a lot about themselves, and hear unique, honest stories that they would otherwise not be able to experience.”

Roisman notes, however, that the Vagina Monologues are not for the faint hearted. “I would only recommend it to those individuals who are open-minded about discussing or hearing otherwise taboo topics,” she says.

With upfront monologue titles including, “The Little Coochie Snorcher That Could” and “Because He Liked to Look At It,” the play touches on a wide-range of issues impacting Collegiettes and manages to make viewers year after year think, laugh, and cry.

There will be three showings of The Vagina Monologues beginning on February 29 and ending March 2 at the Woodruff Health Sciences Center Administration Building (1440 Clifton Rd). Student entry is only $8 and all ticket sales are donated to a non-profit organization. If you cannot attend the event, but would still like to donate to the cause, there is an option available on the show’s event page to make a monetary donation.
