In case you haven’t already heard, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II has a thing against wedges. (I feel for you, Kate.) Well, fortunately for us, the stacked heel is trending again so when we store our summer wedges for the season, our feet won’t be crying … as loudly.

The stacked heel, also known as the “chunky heel,” basically provides more stability for your feet. The thicker your heel is, the less pressure is pinpointed on the ball of your foot. The greater surface area of your heel can actually disperse some of the weight and make you feel more balanced. (Science 101, anyone?) Well, less pressure means less achy feet, and who wouldn’t want that?

So, next time you’re in the market for some sky-high stilettos, keep in mind that comfier, trendier, and just as cute options are out there this fall. Here are a few favorites that I’ve been keeping my eye on for this season:
