Just because football is traditionally a guys’ game, that doesn’t mean that girls can’t enjoy it too! Last night’s Super Bowl game was a great opportunity for us girls to sit around the TV together, eat some yummy football snacks (or Italian food in our case), and take in the full football experience. While I was born and raised a football fan (Go Giants!) and yelled at the television screen for four hours, most of my friends were fully entertained by the non-athletic aspects of the evening program. After all, the Super Bowl is a lot more than a great game of football!
Here is HC Emory’s Super Bowl Recap, as experienced by a non-sports fan. Keep these tips in mind for next year’s game, or the next time you find yourself not so thrilled to be watching or attending any sporting event!
Count Down to the Half-Time Show
The Super Bowl’s halftime performance is definitely a highlight for the girly girls. From the celebrity performers to the glitzy costumes, there is a lot to pay attention to! The performances are always memorable, from Prince to Janet Jackson’s “wardrobe malfunction”, and this year was no different. Madonna definitely made her mark!
Here’s how her scores lined up in my apartment:
The Ups
The elaborate stunts, lighting, special effects and set decoration made the performance thrilling and powerful.
The surprise celebrity guests (LMFAO, Nicki Minaj, MIA, Cee-Lo Green) made watching Madonna’s performance that much more exciting.
Classic songs like Vogue and Like A Prayer, combined with some of this year’s hits had us all singing along. And who doesn’t love Madonna’s voice?
The Downs
Her subtle wipeout. Us Collegiettes know that dancing in stilettos (and on bleachers) doesn’t always end well.
Her dance moves. It’s always awkward when the backup dancers outshine the main artist.
The message? From gladiators to marching bands to world peace, we weren’t quite clear on the theme.
Scout the Field for Hotties
Football players are notoriously good looking, and both the Giants and the Patriots had plenty of steam last night.
Tom Brady
Even if you’re not a football fan, you know Tom Brady. His classic good looks, his quarterback skills, and his wife Gisele Bundchen have earned him celebrity status.
Eli Manning
A second super bowl win makes Eli even hotter. While he might not be as classically good looking as his brother Peyton, Eli’s adorable-in-a-doofy-way look has me captured.
Victor Cruz
A surprise star for the Giants, Victor Cruz has caught the eyes of many. Six feet tall and solid muscle, what’s not to love? Plus, Cruz’s cute victory dances make him memorable.
Don’t Get up During Commercial Breaks
The Super Bowl is famous for its commercials, as companies pay millions and millions of dollars to advertise their products during the game. Overall, we think these pricy slots were filled well this year, but here are the commercials that topped our list:
If you missed this year’s game, hopefully this recap gave you a good idea of yesterday’s exciting events (excluding the football playing of course). We hope that with these guidelines, all the non-fans out there will be able to survive, and even enjoy, the Super Bowl experience. No more staring at your phone while secretly wishing you could change the channel. The Super Bowl is a girl’s game too!
