When:
Tuesday, January 24, 2012 - 12:00pm - Monday, May 7, 2012 - 12:15pm

Every week since 2006, a small group gathers on Emory's Campus to read the list of names from the New York Times of the U.S. Military killed in Iraq and Afghanistan during the preceding week(s). STAND is a single-issue campus group focused on protesting and reporting on the war in Iraq and keeping vigil in memory of the dead killed in the war. Campus Peace Vigil meets for 15 minutes at noon on every fourth Tuesday of the month outside of Cox Hall near the Bell Tower (in case of inclement weather- Woodruff Library foyer). Leading this vigil is Thee Smith, a professor in the Religion Department. Smith states, “In any case, our focus is not only (a) protesting these wars but also (b) memorializing the dead and (c) keeping ourselves aware of their patriotic self-sacrifice on behalf of our country.”
