Unjunking Our Candy: UNREAL at Emerson

This is a sponsored feature. All opinions are 100% from Her Campus.

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Emerson chapter.

As the lovely, busy, and often times, stressed collegiettes that we are here at Emerson, there is nothing we enjoy more than some good chocolate – except for chocolate that has been unjunked.  This semester we have teamed up with UNREAL to bring you chocolate candy you can feel good about eating.  UNREAL is working to take the junk out of our candy.  They are challenging what we’ve come to accept in our food and it’s effect on our health in hopes of changing the way food is made in America and around the world.

Some of our favorite candies are the worst offenders when it comes to the junk they are made with.  Most people think corn syrup, hydrogenated oils, artificial flavors, synthetic colors, and GMOs are there to make candy taste better. But they’re actually there to make candy cheaper.

UNREAL candies have replaced the junk in candy with good stuff: double the cacao, more peanuts, real milk, cane sugar, and organic palm fruit oil. And without all of that junk, we at HCE definitely think the candy tastes better. But UNREAL candies also have 30% less sugar, and 60% more fiber & 250% more protein on average per serving than other leading competing brands.

UNREAL has started spreading the word about their mission by unjunking a segment of our candy aisle (UNREAL candy is now being sold on campus in the 150 Boylston Street Café) but in five years their hope is to see an entire aisle of unjunked candy.

So we tested it out and sought to discover what Emerson’s collegiettes really think of UNREAL candy?  Tons of Emersonians came out to get their pictures taken at our UNREAL Halloween Photo Booth.  Here are our favorite pics and tweets about the candy.

Haven’t tried UNREAL yet or looking for more candy? Come visit HCE this Wednesday, November 14th and Thursday, November 15th from 2-4PM in Piano Row for our Cans for Candy event. We will be handing out candy for free as a treat before Thanksgiving break and accepting cans and donations for the Community Food Bank of New Jersey this holiday season.
