I was excited to get the opportunity to interview Victoria Tan at Her Campus Northeastern to continue our chapters’ partnership in the Her Campus National Sister Chapter Program! Victoria is a junior Marketing and Finance major at Northeastern participating in the five-year program. She has a love for music and has been participating in Her Campus for a year and a half. Here are some more things I learned about Victoria.

How long have you been part of Her Campus? What made you want to join?

I have been a part of Her Campus for a year and a half now. I joined when I transferred to Northeastern University. I learned of Her Campus through my friend who attends Umass Amherst. At my old college we didn’t have a chapter there, but I would always read the online publications. I joined because Her Campus is a great platform for females (and males) to share articles and to feel empowered.

What has your favorite experience with Her Campus been?

My favorite experience with Her Campus is getting to meet lots of great people who share the same hobbies as you.

What have you learned from being part of Her Campus?

While being a part of Her Campus, I learned of other clubs on campus when we partner with them for events.

Are there any challenges you’ve faced while being part of Her Campus?

I think the biggest challenge I have faced while being a part of Her Campus is when people don’t know what Her Campus is and then I have to explain it to them. Her Campus is incredibly awesome so everyone should know about it!

What made you want to attend Northeastern?

At Northeastern University, students have the chance to go on co-ops. Co-ops is a six month internship and our school has partnered with a lot of amazing employers such as TJX, Amazon, and etc. There is even a internship with Hermès in New York City, which I think is really rad! The co-op was a big factor in deciding to go to school here, but I also liked how Northeastern is located in the heart of the city. Everyone here is extremely nice and always motivated.

What is a favorite memory from Northeastern?

My favorite memory from Northeastern is last year when I got to help set up the infrastructure for our spring festival concert.

What do you like to do in your free time?

I love going to concerts! And if I have time, I love going on day trips to New York City!

What are some of your favorite things to do around Boston?

When it gets warmer outside, I enjoy watching the sunset at Charles River. If you want to venture outside of Boston, definitely visit Cambridge. There are a lot of delicious food places, and lots of cute stores!

What do you hope to be doing with your life in the future?

In the future, I hope to work in the music industry. It would be a dream come true to land a role at Superfly and curate the lineup for music festivals. If that doesn’t work out, I would like to get a job in investor relations or work on the trading floor at a financial firm. I honestly have no idea what I want to do, but being happy is a number one priority in my life. I picture myself traveling the world in the future!

Do you have any plans for this summer?

Hopefully this summer I will be going on co-op and spending time at the beach or New York on the weekends.

What are some of your favorite TV shows?

I don’t really watch a lot of tv, but my favorite Netflix Series are Stranger Things, and A Series of Unfortunate Events.

What kind of music are you into?

I like to say I am into all kinds of music, but my favorite genre is “Indie Pop”. My favorite artists are Flume, Foster The People, Glass Animals, Whitney, Grouplove, etc. The list never ends!

I had a great time getting to know Victoria, and I hope you did too!
