How to Deal with a Not-so-white Christmas

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Emerson chapter.

I’ve lived in Austin, Texas for the majority of my life, and the rest of my family lives in Miami, so I’ve never had a white Christmas. I’ve never even had a cold Christmas, mostly just 85 degrees and sunny Christmases. This is kind of depressing during the holiday season, and every time I see a picture of someone curling up with hot chocolate and a Christmas movie, I definitely feel a little bummed. So for those of us living in the south or any sunny states who may have never had the ‘typical’ Christmas that all the classic Christmas movies display, I decided to give my thoughts on the matter.

Sometimes it feels like you’re missing something.

No snow, no fluffy scarves and hats or Christmas sweaters…

But it also means that you don’t have to put on a bunch of layers just to walk outside…

And that you are not limited by the weather for Christmas adventures…

You could even go to the beach on Christmas day instead of huddling over the fireplace.

Forget hot chocolate, you’ve got chocolate milkshakes and fro-yo to get you through this not so harsh winter.

Sometimes it just doesn’t feel like Christmas, but having a long break from the harsh Boston winter is nothing to complain about.

And in the end, all that matters is family, friends, and Christmas lights.
