Confessions on Emerson Confessional

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Emerson chapter.

Once a student enrolls at Emerson College, there are a few aspects of our school that seamlessly find their way into their daily schedule.  They become accustomed to seeing Quidditch practice in the Common, expect to debate the latest issues on feminism in at least one of their classes, and of course they read Emerson Confessional. Emerson Confessional is a Facebook page that anonymously posts confessions (some ridiculous, some serious) from the Emerson community. Students tend to have strong opinions on the page and its content. What? Emerson students with strong opinions? No way. You can’t believe it? Well I asked a few students about Emerson Confessional and here is what they said:

1. Do you read Emerson Confessional?

Yeah

– Brian, Freshman

Yes, all the time

– Pilar, Sophomore

Only if someone tells me to read a specific post. I don’t have their page liked, that’s how much I don’t like it.

Chris, Junior

Um, I did go through a phase where I would check up on it

– Silvia, Senior

2. Can you describe Emerson Confessional?

Um I think that Emerson Confessional is like…most people use it as a joke. It’s a humorous Emerson inside joke, you know?

– Brian, Freshman

Emerson Confessional is half ranting from petty to serious and half a satire of itself. It’s such a blend of the two that you can never be sure what is true and what isn’t.

– Pilar, Sophomore

UGH people have too much time on their hands. It is a place that people troll and air their dirty laundry out in an anonymous setting.

– Chris, Junior

People can write to it, any kind of confession and it gets posted on the wall of the page. I’m not sure who runs it but it gets anonymously posted, its just a bunch of confessions.

– Silvia, Senior

3. What are your general opinions/feelings about the page?

It’s funny I think. Some people take it too seriously, some people make fun of it too much, but mostly it’s funny. Most people use it to make fun of their friends and stuff so it’s no big deal.

– Brian, Freshman

Emerson Confessional is entertaining. I think it’s not an ideal place to pour your soul out, but since you’re reaching most of the Emerson community I get the appeal of doing it. It’s a weird and beautiful place.

– Pilar, Sophomore

I see why people like it but I personally dislike it and my strong opinions on it stem from peoples strong opinions on there. It’s a place people hide behind being anonymous. Also those threads just get out of hand. They go on for pages!

– Chris, Junior

I think its fun. I think some people use it to troll other people and use it to make comments they know will get a lot of negative attention but mostly it’s for fun.

– Silvia, Senior

4. Have you ever submitted?

No

– Brian, Freshman

Yes, one time.

– Pilar, Sophomore

Noooo

– Chris, Junior

I actually have with my friend, twice. I wont tell what though.

– Silvia, Senior

5. Do you have any additional comments you want to make about Emerson Confessional or any memorable Confessions you want to share?

* Nods no *

– Brian, Freshman

There was one confession about pooping out of the window and I think that’s what makes this school great.

– Pilar, Sophomore

It’s always the same people commenting…just an observation.

– Chris, Junior

Nope.

– Silvia, Senior

Additional comments by the student body:

“I feel like most of it’s fake.”

“There are too many comments about the DH. Way too many. It’s like yo, the DH is fine.”

“It’s entertaining but like, most of it’s not real.”

“It feels like a reality TV Show but in anonymous Facebook form. Like OH MY GOD WHO WOULD SAY THAT? WHAT? You know its fake but you do that anyway.”

“Didn’t they just pass like 2,000 posts?”

“I think it’s interesting.”

“Apparently there is a lawsuit against them because people were posting about very serious topics and it wasn’t being taken care of, I don’t know the facts behind that though.”

“It’s just people talking about themselves and their friends or trying to arouse drama.”

“I know who monitors the page…but I will not say who.”
