6 Ways to Stay Productive During Winter Break

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Emerson chapter.

With our own cozy beds and warm fireplaces to distract us, winter break at home can be a hard time to get things done. With nothing do to and nowhere to go, it can be easy to slip back into binge-watching Netflix shows after going through the stress of finals. And while a TV break here and there sure doesn’t hurt, winter break is an awesome time to get things done that you wouldn’t normally be able to during school. Here’s our list of productive things to get done so that you have a rewarding winter break!

1. Catch up on your reading list

Been dying to read Amy Poehler’s new book? Have to catch up on your subscription of Cosmo? Now’s the time! Winter break is an awesome opportunity to read up on all the things you’ve been missing, whether academic or just for fun!

2. Tend to the job search

While a workless spring semester may seem ideal, you won’t be thinking that when your roommates want to go out for dinner every week! Save yourself the headache and start the job (or internship) search now. Update your resume, write some cover letters, and send in those applications!

3. Work on your New Year’s resolutions

Whether it’s eating better, reading more, or working out on the reg, winter break is the time to organize your resolutions and put them into action! Use your free time to map out your goals for the semester and get started on the right foot this year.

4. Volunteer

Use that extra energy for good by volunteering locally this break. Help out at your local food pantry, stop by the humane society, or do a little baking for charity – you won’t regret it!

5. Hit the gym

Without class, you have no excuse to skip out on your workouts! Since you’ll have an abundance of free time, there’s no better time to hit the gym than during break. Sign up for a one-month membership at your local center or check out some YouTube videos for some effective at-home exercises!

6. Meet up with old friends

While a night of Netflix may be tempting, it’s important to keep up with your social life when you’re at home. Instead of hibernating all winter, try to get out and meet up with your hometown friends!
