4 Ways to Maximize Sleep & Make Your Morning Easier

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Emerson chapter.

1. Pick out your clothes the night before

Instead of standing in your closet in the morning trying to pick something you hope matches while you are trying to wake up, pick out your clothes the night before. While this won’t save a ton of time in the morning, it will get you an extra 5-10 minutes of sleep, which is well worth it if you ask me.

2. Shower the night before

Depending on how long it takes you to shower, this could save you upwards of an hour. I know what you’re thinking, “but I have to shower in the morning because it wakes me up.” That might be true, so an alternative to this is to shower at night and wash your hair—which, let’s face it, is what makes showers so long—and in the morning hop in the shower for a quick 5 minute rinse off. It will still save you time in the morning, and you won’t have to worry about drying your hair!

3. Pack your lunch the night before

If you’re someone who packs a lunch, try packing it up the night before and leaving it in the fridge. That way, all you have to do in the morning is pull it out of the fridge and transfer it to the bag you are taking with you!

4. Pack your bag the night before

Whether you are taking a bag for work, school or just to go out, pack what you are going to need the night before. If you have everything you need to take with you all in one place, you won’t have to worry about looking for it while you are still half asleep.

Most importantly, I would like to advise against the following to the most extreme degree: Do NOT, under any circumstances, put bacon on a George Forman Grill next to your bed so you can wake up to plug in the grill, go back to sleep, and wake up again to the smell of bacon. You WILL end up like Michael Scott.
