4 Summer Jobs That Look Great on Any Resume

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Emerson chapter.

Summer is almost here, and collegiettes are quickly scrambling to finalize their break plans. Your options seem to be either an unpaid internship or a part-time job. You’re torn; you really could use some extra cash, but you’re always looking to further your career. Paid internships are few and far between, but luckily there are a few part-time jobs that can have big payoff in the long run. Here are four summer jobs that will look great on your resume!

1. Front Desk/Secretarial Work

Working a front desk, answering phones and inputting appointments can be tiring work, but it also can majorly boost your resume! Jobs like this show off your ability to multi-task as well as your computer skills and customer service prowess. Plus, working in an office often requires the professional dress and mannerisms that can make you stand out among your peers in future interviews. “Good morning, how may I help you?”

2. Assistant

Whether you land a position as a personal assistant or in a niche field like editorial, taking on an assistant role means not only that you’re a hard-worker, but also that you’re willing to learn. Being an assistant is the first step to a career in many fields, so be ready for a lot of menial tasks, but it’s a position above being an intern. Baby steps!

3. Customer Service

Dealing with people isn’t easy. Having any sort of customer service job indicates that you’re patient and friendly. A job in customer service also shows that you’re a problem-solver and are good at making other people happy. Customer service jobs can be found in many different businesses, such as restaurants and stores. Being the friendly face of a company is a valuable asset no matter what level position you’re in!

4. Non-Profits

Working for a non-profit can be very rewarding and fun! No matter your position with the company, working with a non-profit shows that you care about something and are willing to work for change. Passionate people are important in every career field!

No matter what kind of job you get this summer, just be sure to give it your all. In any workplace there’s room for you to shine!
