What collegiettes look forward to most over Thanksgiving break

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Elon chapter.

This year, Elon gave their collegiates an extra long Thanksgiving break, which is nothing to complain about. With 10 days of being home, us collegiates have tons of time to do all the things we missed while being away the past few months.

Here are a few things to do over this extra long break:

  1. Spend time with your family: Thanksgiving is a great time to catch up with relatives and cousins that you haven’t seen since the last major holiday. It will be great to see them, but be ready for a million questions!

  1. Food, food and more food: Indulge in your favorite home cooked meals and fill up on Thanksgiving Day treats.

  1. Of course, you must tune in to the New York City Macy’s Day Parade: The parade is a great time to relax on Thanksgiving morning and see all of your favorite floats!

  1. Reunite with your hometown friends: Break is the best time to catch up with your high school friends who you haven’t seen in months and spend time together.

  1. Thanksgiving football game: It wouldn’t be Thanksgiving without attending a high school football game before starting your Thanksgiving Day festivities.

  1. NFL football games: If you are a big football fan, many NFL teams will be playing throughout the day. This year you can tune into Philadelphia Eagles @ Detroit Lions, Carolina Panthers @ Dallas Cowboys and Chicago Bears @ Green Bay Packers.

  1. Sleep: 10 days is the perfect time to catch up on your sleep. Nothing beats your own comfy bed.

  1. Shop: If you can handle staying up all night and are a diehard shopper, it is the perfect time to hit the mall and find the best sales during the Black Friday shopping event.

  1. TV: Although collegiates love Netflix, being home for break is the perfect time to catch up on TV shows you missed while at school.

  1. Go back to high school for a day: If you missed your high school as much as I have, break is the perfect time to go back and visit younger friends and your favorite teachers.

  1. Prepare for winter: Although Elon typically has pretty nice weather, as we head into winter, we will definitely need lots of warm sweaters.  It is a great time to bring a huge suitcase back of all your winter essentials.

  1. Holiday gifts: If you want to get on the ball, head to the mall and start thinking about winter holiday presents for your friends and family. It will make December a lot less stressful.

  1. Spend time outside: Thanksgiving break is the perfect time to adventure outdoors and enjoy the end of fall before it gets too cold.

  1. Prepare for final exams: If you really feel like getting ahead, start preparing for finals over break. This will take a huge amount of stress off the final days before winter break and get you well prepared for those tough upcoming tests.

Whatever you choose to do over break, Thanksgiving is the perfect getaway from school, and a great time to do things you love with friends and family.
