Last week I was introduced to a series of documentaries about eating a plant based diet. They encourage cutting out meat and substituting it with grains, beans, and meat substitutes in order to live your healthiest and happiest life. After watching these films, I decided to try transitioning into a vegetarian diet. On campus dining offers tons of vegetarian options however, I realized that this was a lot harder than I thought to find tasty and inexpensive options off campus. Listed below are my five favorite places to eat with delicious vegetarian options!
1. Tangent Eat + Bar
Tangent has a great selection of artisan tacos and many are surprised that they offer vegetarian and vegan options! Try the lentil quinoa taco for a traditionally meaty taco flavor with a kick, or try the bahn mi taco and ask for fried tofu instead of meatballs!
2. Acorn
Located right across from the communications school, it’s the perfect grab and go place for lunch between classes. Acorn has recently started offering vegan cheese and tofurkey, both great choices for a meat-free sandwich!
3. Mellow Mushroom
Mellow Mushroom is the answer to your late night pizza craving even for vegetarians! Opt for the tofu pizza topper or tempeh for a great source of protein that’s still delicious!
4. La Cocina
While many people might not think of La Cocina as a vegetarian friendly option, it surprisingly has a lot of choices! My favorites are the veggie fajitas and the black bean burrito but there’s so much more!
5. Hops Burger Bar
If you’re in the mood to explore for food off campus, Hops Burger Bar in Greensboro is a great place to start. Their burgers are delicious and with both a veggie burger and a black bean burger there’s something for everyone!
Deciding to eat a vegetarian diet is an exciting step to living a healthy lifestyle and with the right research and planning, it can be easy and inexpensive!
