Tricks for Holiday Decorating on a Budget

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Elon chapter.

It’s that time of year again: the holiday season is quickly approaching. While some might think it’s a little early, the shopping world was ready as soon as the last piece of Halloween candy had been eaten. One of the best parts of the holidays is the decorations. There are ways that everyone can make their home feel festive, even if they are college students on a budget. Here are some tips for joining in on the holiday fun and still making sure you have money left over for shopping. And even better you can get everything at the Dollar Tree.

Candy Bowl

Fill a glass bowl with holiday themed candy and tie a bright colored ribbon about it. Then place it somewhere it will be seen and easily accessible. Make sure you share the holiday spirit (and candy) when your friends come over.

String Lights

These are a cute way to add color to your room without breaking your budget. They also come in all sorts of fun colors. Draping them around windows or doorways adds a cute holiday glow to any dorm room or apartment.

Bows

Bows come in all different colors and sizes. They make cute door decorations or even just hang them up on the wall above your bed.

Wrapping Paper

If you really want a challenge wrap your door up like a present. This is a great way to get the whole apartment feeling festive and wrapping paper comes in all difference colors and holiday prints.

Snowflakes

Remember in elementary school when you used to cut out snowflakes? Break out the scissors, paper, and the child in you! These make great door decorations or get really crafty and cut them out to hang from the ceiling.
