It’s that time of year when everyone returns from Spring Break more bronzed and blonde. There’s nothing like returning to school and embracing that all natural glow at the events we look forward to all year. Having perfect skin, hair, and everything else are only the accessories to the most important part (other than a date…lol): the dress! Dress shopping can be SO stressful and expensive, especially when the trends are always changing. This spring you’ll be seeing a lot of florals, whites, muted greys, and navy. These four groups have been all the rave and seen on the runway. So, how do you stand out at formal when everyone else is following the same trends while budgeting, and where can you find these dresses? Try to shop on sites that are unknown. I know when I find a new website that I love, I’m usually hesitant to tell people about it. It’s hard to want to share what you have found while also trying to have clothes that are different from everyone else. Well, that’s pretty much impossible considering as college students we all tend to like the same things, so that means we have to invest more time in searching for the perfect dress, accessories, shoes, and everything else. We all know how mortifying it is to have the same dress as someone else, especially at events like formal. There is no worse feeling than matching with someone, and secretly having a “who wore it better” competition.

To arrive to formal in style, I’m going to share with you a couple of ideas that I have. I have always been one to take risks and try new things with clothes. You’ll be seeing a lot of that in stores this spring. One new trend that is in, that may take a while to get accustomed to, is the crop top with a loose skirt; either a fit and flare or a maxi. This sounds completely informal and casual, and I thought the same thing at first, but it wasn’t until I came across a picture on Facebook of my friend’s friend wearing it to prom two years ago (she is always two years ahead of the fashion trends). She wore a simple white cropped top with a maxi skirt, and a Chanel cuff to dress it up. Although we all may not be wearing Chanel, with the right accessories this look can look amazing and super stylish. You’ll be seeing a lot of two-piece sets that are made to be dressed up for a more modern and chic look.

Second, the Fit and Flare. You can never go wrong with this style. It is always flattering and it is not too risqué. Fit and Flare dresses are cute, yet gorgeous. Although they may not be form fitting to show off all your curves and best features, the fit and flare allows for a little imagination while looking adorable. Some of my favorite dresses are fit and flare. You will be seeing designers coming out with a lot of floral prints and more neutral tones in this style.

Last but not least, backless dresses. Who doesn’t love a sophisticated looking dress from the front with a surprise in the back? This is definitely one of my go-to looks for spring. Backless dresses are awesome and allow for you to do a fun up-do hairstyle and really emphasize those accessories!

Here are just a few ideas on how to look trendy at formal this spring and keep up with the new trends!
