Meet Elon Junior Abbey Haggerty! Currently abroad in Florence, Italy Abbey has a love for food and enjoys sharing her favorite eats with her followers via her Instagram account, @friendswithgluten

What is your major?

Strategic Communications and French

Why did you pick Florence?

“I wanted to go abroad with people I was close with because I knew I would enjoy it more. I visited Florence when I was younger and have always wanted to re-visit so I could truly appreciate all the city has to offer. Not to mention all the amazing food.”

When did you start your Instagram account and why?

“I started my account over the summer while I was interning in New York City. I was going out to eat a lot and wanted to start documenting all the yummy dishes. Freshmen year I started working for Spoon Elon and wanted to branch off and start a food Instagram of my own.”

What is your favorite type of food to photograph?

Pasta or Ice cream

How do you get the word out about your accounts?

“I registered my Instagram as a business profile so I could see the insights of my account & all different kind of stats. It lets me know good times to post and what parts of the world the most of my views are coming from. Sometimes I also tag @friendswithgluten in pictures on my personal account so my followers can see it.”

What is your favorite type of food?

Pasta 100 percent.

How does the food in Florence compare to your expectations?

“The food is definitely better than my expectations. It’s unprocessed and tastes so much better than anything I’ve eaten back home. There are also so many restaurants to choose from I never feel like I’m running out of options.”

I am a junior at Elon University from Connecticut! I am pursuing a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Journalism with a minor in Business Administration and Sport and Event Management. I have a passion for writing and enjoy incorporating that with my love for fashion, fitness and pop culture. I hope to one day move out to Los Angeles and work in entertainment news.
