Lindsey Sinicki ’16 makes a difference with Elonthon

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Elon chapter.

Lindsey Sinicki, a current senior at Elon, has made a huge impact on Elonthon. She is most certainly FTK (For The Kids)! Lindsey decided to become involved with Elonthon her freshman year, when she signed up for a 6 hour shift at the dance marathon. As a Sophomore, Lindsey

decided to become more involved by joining the Families Committee, of which she continued her membership throughout her Junior year. As a senior, Lindsey joined Elonthon’s Executive Board (Exec), and is now the head of the Families committee.

Lindsey was hooked on Elonthon after hearing one of the miracle children’s stories during the dance marathon her freshman year. She believes the most rewarding part of Elonthon is getting to spend time with the families of the miracle children. She is constantly inspired by the strength of the children, and loves that they all are unique, with different backgrounds and cultures.

Lindsey has made a huge impact on the children. Although most of the kids involved in Elonthon are either in remission or cured, she still takes frequent visits to the Duke Children’s hospital to meet with their affiliates. She has also made many recent trips to spend time with

one of the miracle children who relapsed and was re-diagnosed with Leukemia. Lindsey has gotten very close with the miracle child she visits, and says “[she] cannot imagine life without them.”

Additionally, Lindsey has been working hard along with the other 16 members of the Exec board since last May, planning and organizing the dance marathon that will take place on April 8-9, 2016. Describing her experiences with Elonthon, Lindsey states, “It is so humbling to meet people who give and give, despite the struggle and fear they are facing.” She is such a kind soul, and we are lucky to have someone like her making such a big difference in Elon’s community.

My name is Casey Torto and I am a freshman at Elon University.  I am from just outside of Boston Massachusetts and attended Pingree High School.  This is my first year with Her Campus and I hope to major in either Marketing or Communications.
