I am the first to admit that remaining healthy in college ranks right up there with maintaining grades and a social life. With all the late night snacks, mac and cheese and ramen you could ever want, keeping a healthy lifestyle seems impossible. Here are some tips and tricks I’ve gathered to keep some of those healthy habits from home we seem to forget about.

  1. Go-to satisfying meals

Whether it be a Clif bar, a banana with fruit, or granola and berries, make sure you have meals and snacks that are satisfying to you. This is important because a big mistake so many college students make is settling with a snack they don’t like just to fill their stomach. Keep ingredients or small things on hand that you know will always satisfy your taste buds!

  1. Look for alternatives

One thing that has definitely helped me and my roommates curb those unhealthy cravings is to tweak them a little bit. Instead of buying microwavable popcorn we buy just the kernels and pop them on the stove. Toss and little salt and kettle corn seasoning on there and you have yourself homemade popcorn. It is just as tasty and satisfying as it would’ve been from a bag.

    3) Don’t let your schedule completely dictate your meals

The school day can appear to be never ending. I know I struggle to fit meals into my day and around my busy schedule. Try not to let your schedule dictate the times you eat. If you need to grab something from a dining hall to curb your hunger before dinner, do it! You’ll get through class with a much better attitude and your body and mind will thank you later.

    4) Drink Water

This one may seem like a simple hack, but you’ll notice the difference in mood, energy levels, and overall health if you stay on top of your water consumption. Water is also amazing for your skin!

College can make being healthy hard, but not if you don’t let it. Remember these four tips and you’ll be feeling better about yourself in no time!
