FALL in Love with North Carolina: Your Top 5 Autumn Accessories

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Elon chapter.

As a northern girl from New Jersey, initially I had assumed autumn weather in southern states did not drop below 70 degrees. Although not as bad as Jersey, North Carolina is still hit hard by cold mornings and chilly afternoons throughout the fall months. But don’t fret, Her Campus is here to help. These basic items will help any college student through the current season:

1.    A Good Vest

My Mom always says, “If your core is warm, that’s all that matters.”  A vest is without a doubt a must-have fashion item for fall. This article of clothing has the ability to keep any person’s body the perfect temperature on a brisk morning or cool afternoon in October. Throw it on over a long-sleeved shirt or a thin sweater to achieve the perfect look for a quick walk to class, the library or to lunch with friends. Switch it up from a sweater and jeans to a long-sleeved dress paired with a fur vest for a temperature-friendly, yet fashionable ensemble.

2.   Chapstick

Walking to an 8 a.m. class has the potential of being the most miserable part of a person’s day. The sudden change in weather can leave you with dry, cracking, red lips by the end of the day. To avoid this, always keeping chapstick in your backpack or back pocket. Doing this will help you to remember to apply it to your lips every hour or so. I suggest brands such as EOS and Blistex.

3.   A Travel Coffee Cup

Save yourself some extra time in the morning by tossing your favorite blend of fall coffee flavors in a travel mug of choice. Having a source of warmth during your walk to class will make the cold much more bearable. It also happens to be a cute addition to any fall outfit.

4.   Boot Socks

To jazz up a basic fall outfit, throw on a pair of above-the-knee socks with your favorite pair of jeans or leggings to achieve a comfy look. Boot socks are flattering on every body type and are an easy way to dress up a simple boot and pant combo for the fall time.

5.   An Oversized Sweater

An oversized sweater is a definite fall staple for any time of day. The most popular styles for this season range from cowl necks to deep v-necks and are an effortless way to keep warm.

Combine this piece with leggings or converse and start your day with comfort and style. Opt for a warm color palette for even more festive attire.
