Elonthon 2017

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Elon chapter.

There is something special about this time of year. A mood and tone surround the

entire campus as Elon students give up their usual fun weekend festivities for a

greater cause. Elonthon, our annual 24-hour dance marathon, donates money to The

Children’s Miracle Network to give children a greater chance at overcoming their

health battles. Her Campus is hosting their 3rd Annual Spring Fashion Show to

specifically raise money for Elonthon. Their goal for 2017 is to raise more money,

attract more dances, welcome new miracle children and build more hype. Her

Campus is partnering with them to make sure all these goals are accomplished.

Elonthon creates an overwhelming passion, energy, and pure emotion.

The 24-hour experience in that gym is unlike any other. The entire Elon community comes

together as a family for the children and it’s the one time you have the opportunity

to get outside your comfort zone, meet new people, and show your true self.

Personally, I have been involved since my freshman year and continue to come back.

As a committee member, I get to see the behind the scenes work that goes into this

event and I can’t tell you how rewarding it feels to watch it all come together.

This year Elonthon is welcoming lots of new and exciting additions. There will be 18

miracle children speaking, four acappella groups performing, more competitions and

fundraising wars, and a lot surprise events that you will only get the chance to see if

you attend the event. There is also a silent disco this year and the annual rave, plus the event is Under the Sea themed. No

matter what shift you are, how much money you raise, or how many hours you

dedicate it is guaranteed to be an incredible experience. So get on some comfortable

shoes and get read to dance your heart out this Friday and Saturday!
