I’m not really into the idea of New Year. I don’t think that just because the date changes, your whole life and persona are going to change. Time is relative, eh? Nonetheless, everyone can agree that 2017 had more than enough bad moments. There was a lot of political trauma, natural disasters, lives lost and tons more that plagued us throughout the year. Now that isn’t to say that nothing good happened in 2017, but society doesn’t like to focus on the positive over negative, so I’m going to do it. Here’s a list of awesome things upcoming in the new year to look forward to.

1. Winter Olympics

Pyeongchang, South Korea will be the location for the 2018 Winter Olympics, taking place during February. This year marks a huge achievement, the first time Africa will be represented by a women’s Nigerian bobsled team, which is definitely something to look forward to.

2. Amazing new movies

2018 brings us a great list of new films to love, including “Black Panther”, “Proud Mary” and “Annihilation.” There are also plenty of sequels and remakes including:

  • “Avengers: Infinity War”

  • “Solo”

  • “Deadpool 2”

  • “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom”

  • “Maze Runner: The Death Cure”

  • “The Incredibles 2”

  • “Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again”

  • “Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation”

  • “Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2”

  • “The Purge: The Island”

3. The World Cup

The United States isn’t participating, but that’s no problem because it’ll for sure be broadcasted everywhere. You could catch live streams of the game while studying or doing nothing to check up on your favorite team.

4. A Royal Wedding

Remember how America wouldn’t stop talking about the marriage between Prince William and Catherine Middleton back in 2011? Well that’s about to happen again. In May of 2018, Prince Harry will be marrying Meghan Markle, and it’s bound to be all over the press for the entire month.

5. Frozen hits Broadway

Thought you heard enough of “Let it Go”? Well get ready for it to be all over again. 2017 crazed over “Hamilton”, now 2018 gets to witness the creation of “Frozen” as Broadway play.

6. TV Shows

Of course with the new year, all platforms are going to be giving us great stuff to watch, including Netflix, YouTube and networks like Cartoon Network, Disney and Freeform. Shows like “Grown-ish”, “The Alienist”, “Black Lightning” and “Reverie” are just a few of them.

7. Midterm Elections

I’m one of the last people who want to bring up politics after all the turmoil we suffered in 2017, but the very important midterm elections will be occuring in 2018. Be sure you’re registered to vote by November to participate.

Of course there’s hundreds of more things to look forward to. The #MeToo Movement is just beginning in 2018 and hopes to be branching out to the sports industry. There’s going to be continuing conflict with the Iran and Saudi Arabia rivalry, not much of what we can predict. Everything will play out with time, and as we hear about scandals, convictions, controversies, theories and inventions, remember that we can recover from the bad as long as we reflect on the good, and time will always go on.
