A letter to everyone not having a great semester

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at ECU chapter.

Nobody said college was going to be easy. I haven’t been here long, it’s only my second year here but this semester has been brutal. I chose all the wrong classes, I’ve taken too many L’s, and I’ve had more drama this semester than I ever did in high school. Sometimes I just feel like I’m going through the motions. However, I’m here to tell you that it’s going to get better. (But you knew that already, right?)

I know that everyone is going through different situations and it might seem like the end of the world because you’re failing a class, or your significant other broke up with you, or you didn’t make the team. It’s OKAY, always remember that things happen for a reason and that everything falls into place eventually. Even if it’s your fault that things went south, learn from your mistakes. We’re human and we’re never going to be perfect. Unless we become robots but even then, we could run into technical difficulties.

I think in this situation, it’s important to not lose hope. There has been so many times this semester where I have wanted to just pack up my things and leave. However, I refuse to be a college dropout so I have to constantly remind myself to pick myself back up every time I fall. My mom is always telling me that we don’t quit, so take this advice from my mom, WE DON’T QUIT! Keep moving forward and you’ll be glad you did someday. Remove yourself from the negativity in your life and surround yourself by positive things. Confide in those you trust and make the best of your situation.

Thanksgiving is coming up so use that time to recognize what you’re thankful for. Truth is, there is always going to be someone who has it worse than we do. Yes, we do only have a week after thanksgiving break to get our lives together before finals, but after that are the holidays! And if you’re a December baby like me, you’ll be celebrating a birthday! I’m not going to lie, my birthday this year doesn’t feel too special, it’s a week before Christmas, but I’m thankful that I get to celebrate another year of being alive.

Even if the holidays aren’t your thing, after that comes a new year and with it a new semester. So, don’t feel discouraged! There is a fresh start coming and I’m not going to lie, I’m ready for it! Time heals all wounds, as well as your GPA, so chin up buttercup. Great things are coming our way.
