Five Tips to Get You Through Finals Week

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at ECU chapter.

We all know the drill: eat, sleep, study. Finals week is no joke and for all you nursing majors, I’m praying for you. But summer is right around the corner. So here’s some tips to get you through it, because I promise you, you WILL get through it.

Get sleep:

You will be able to get a lot more done during a day if you are getting adequate sleep at night. If you aren’t getting enough sleep, then you will know and it will affect you in many aspects. You will notice that you aren’t retaining as much while studying, that you are getting distracted more often and that you are obviously much more irritable.

Eat healthy:

I know it’s easier to drive-thru the Cookout drive thru during finals week, but that food will affect you more. You will feel more bloated and tired after a heavy and greasy meal. Instead try to go grocery shopping beforehand and keep fruit and vegetables on hand, you could even cook them ahead of time and just heat them up as you need.

Limit your caffeine intake:

The go-to is to normally take in as much caffeine as possible to get the most hours of studying in, but once that caffeine wears off you will crash hard. Instead try and get energy in another way, go for a walk, talk to some friends during a study break or eat an apple which can give you energy. I’m not saying don’t drink coffee at all because you may go insane at that point.

Work out:

Working out is one of the best ways to keep your mind sharp. You will find that you have more energy during the day but that you are sleeping better at night which is beneficial to studying. As stated before, you could even go on a simple walk as exercise to get yourself moving. But if you want to get a full workout in, go to the gym because it’s probably pretty empty since most people will be in the library instead.

Don’t stress:

This seems silly, I know. How is it even possible to not stress during finals week? It’s hard, but try not to. Remember to study and do your best but also remember that these grades don’t define you or your intelligence. Put your all in it and you will see hard work pay off.
