Going to the beach is honestly the best way to get away. The sand, the sea, and your music and/or a good book; there is no better atmosphere to submerse yourself in. Taking a trip to the beach doesn’t require an entire weekend (unless you want it to!) since, as ECU students, we have the privilege of being less than a two-hour car ride away. Trust me, it’s extremely hard to not feel like you’re on vacation while lying on a towel and soaking in the sun. Here are just a few reasons why the beach is the best escape for any pirate gal:
1. You are free to just chill with no interruptions
No one is going to come up and talk to you while you’re lying on the beach. Everyone has his or her own thing to do. It’s almost like you’re in a perfect little oasis that was made just for you. The only thing that can get in your way is your phone, so consider unplugging before going to the beach!
2. Is there really any better reading spot?
Aside from the perfect lighting provided to any reader, the sounds of the beach drown away any thoughts that may distract you from a good read. The beach is already your getaway from the real world, so doubling that up with a book escape is really a foolproof way to really calm your mind. You’ll be guaranteed a few hours of forgetting about the papers and exams that are right around the corner. Every girl needs time to reset.
3. It’s literally the best place to nap
Shall I reiterate that you’ll be completely left alone? Just remember to make sure your valuables are hidden away somewhere super safe and that you’ve put on tons of sunscreen first! If you choose to do this, you are guaranteed to have the best nap of your college career. Who wouldn’t want to fall asleep to the sound of the waves and the warmth of the sun?
4. Feel like you haven’t been able to be creative in a while? Build a sand castle!
I mean come on. There’s no age limit for building (or attempting to build) a sand castle. This is especially fun if you’re sharing your beach day with someone else! Speaking from experience, you’re bound to get a good laugh at the creation you’ll make.
5. You’re a pirate. Go to the beach.
Plain and simple. We’re all pirates and our hearts are all painted purple and gold. The privilege of being so close to the beach is not a luxury every college gets. Take advantage of the opportunity and get in touch with your sea-lover side. You’ll really miss out on some great memories if you don’t. See the horizon before you “capture your horizon”.
